About The Weather Channel
The Weather Channel is a cable and satellite television channel that broadcasts weather-related news. Be it forecasts, analyses, weather-related documentaries, and other entertainment programming revolving around weather, the channel presents it all! It is a pay television channel, which means users have to purchase a paid subscription to enjoy the channel. Owned by the Weather Group, LLC, The Weather Channel was launched in the year 1982. As of September 2018, it was estimated that around 79 million households had subscribed to the channel in the US. A number which keeps increasing constantly. The Weather Company, which was the previous owner, is a big name in satellite radio, newspapers, websites, and applications. The Weather Channel has weather stations across major universities around the globe. Few examples being The Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of California in the US, the University of Oxford and Lancaster University in the UK, and the International space station. Apart from broadcasting weather-related information on television, The Weather Channel runs multiple websites across the globe to keep the public constantly updated on local weather. It operates websites targeting viewers across Latin America, Brazil, United Kingdom, France, and Germany.
One can simply log on to the website of TWC to get a very detailed overview of the weather in an area. You can search your city by typing a name into the search tab or by typing in the pin code of your area. You can get hourly, 10-day, weekend, and monthly updates from the website. Not only this, the folks at The Weather Channel ensure that their website is updated with the latest news at all hours. From trending news to top videos, The Weather Channel showcases it all. Other facts and figures related to the quality of air, allergens, and science behind many weather-related phenomena, can be accessed on the website. For its exemplary work in the field, The Weather Channel has been felicitated several times. In 2019, the channel was awarded an Emmy for its outstanding science, medical or environmental reporting. In the same month, the channel was also awarded the Fast Company’s Innovation by Design award. The channel was also listed in the Morning Consult’s ‘Most loved brands in America’.
The Weather Channel has strong presence on all social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. You can also access the radar and weather map of any area through the official website. You can use their Satellite layers option to view the maps in various settings. It is undoubtedly one of the most sophisticated websites out there. It allows users to play with multiple settings and options so that they can garner relevant information. If you want to get in touch with the channel for any complaint or feedback, you can reach out to the assistance team via the contact form available on the website.
Changed local on the 8’s is a very poor decision. No longer local. We really dislike the format change. Just seeing a temp in various cities is useless to us. We specifically check local on the eights at 18 and 48 minutes during the early morning.
I’m a fan of the weather channel from years ago. I depend on accurate weather forecasts across the country to plan my adventures from coast to coast. Some of your meteorologists are better at communicating weather than others of course, but it’s not as painful as some other weather stations. Jen Crafagno has been a joy to watch over the years, and some of the other meteorologists are definitely entertaining. Thank you for your dedication to the weather forecast, and keep up the good work. I’m here in Oklahoma, where Weather changes from hour to hour and sometimes very severe.
I have watched the Weather Channel since the beginning. I have seen good and bad meteorologists over the years, and the ones that need more seasoning, are replaced with little fanfare. My 2 pervious letters were to praise Jen Carfagno when she first came on air; she is a natural. The other was the “un-sportmalike” treatment of Nicole Mitchell terminating her for her required reserve training.
Now however, I find that I cannot endure Lynettte. She just doe not have the gift. Also, and I realize this will cause some sparks; but I cannot watch Justin Michaels segments. He is condescending, appears to know more about everything than anybody else, and his interviews with storm victims is unsympathetic. I realize, that personnel changes are made at the top; and that a single remark, will probably be overlooked. But know this, when either of those 2 are on air, I switch the cannel, or turn off the tv.
Weather channel messed up all day. Showing weather everywhere else but local. We are having a Thunderstorm and tornado warning and need to know about it.
Someone needs to tell whoever fills in the weather data on the weather on the eights. Often the data for Charleston West Virginia is the same as Charleston South Carolina. This is particularly confusing if you live near either! It’s March 3rd and you tell me it’s going to be 81°F in Charleston WV tomorrow- I don’t think so!!!
I agree. I live in Washington state and get local on the eights for the whole country now or for the Seattle area, I live on the other side of the state some 400 miles away, definitely different weather.
I am angry about the segment that Stephane Abrams and her partner did on the Ferrell cows. It’s already disgusting that New Mexico isn’t smart enough to figure out what to do about this sad situation. These girls laughed, thought it was funny.
What has happened to the format of the Weather Channel?? Has moved from an Information-Based programming to an Entertainment-Based Service!? What does showing a 1997 Movie, ‘The Edge’ have to do with informing viewers about the Weather, locally, regionally or nationally? I’m not interested in watching ‘Reality T.V.’ Or old/bad movies! Tune in to the Weather Channel, less and less, past few months.
Why don’t you ever mention Wisconsin. We have a big storm coming through and I don’t hear one thing about it. There were 60000 people without power and you guys never mentioned one thing.
I love watching the Weather Channel but streaming to watch on TV is disaster. And I PAY for the streaming service! Problem – a zillion commercials. I am absolutely sick of Shaq! You show his insurance commercial repeatedly sometimes the same commercial back to back to back! Court TV, The Grio, I’m sick of the commercials. I may see 2 minutes of the weather broadcast and then 6 minutes of commercials. They even squeeze in commercials and when the broadcast returns in the middle of the weather segment so they squeezed in commercials over the broadcast.
I’m about ready to stop paying for the streaming app and switch to Fox Weather that is free.
My husband and I watch the Weather Channel every day. I‘m reading many complaints in this post. I’m sorry to see so many negative comments. I also saw many negative comments after Ian hit. I for one feel that these comments are misdirected. If you don’t want to hear about the weather, don’t watch. If the weather takes an unexpected turn, don’t blame the weather channel… they don’t change the direction of any wind or storm, and they can only report what information that is prevented to them. The majority of the time they are spot on as far as what and where. When things take a radical jog or become more intense THEY are not the ones making it happen, but they act as quickly as possible to update what is happening.
I want to COMMEND and THANK the Weather Channel and their personnel for doing the best they can to keep us informed and to pray for their continued safety as they continue to put themselves in harms way to provide us with these updates.
I am a retired airline pilot and I used to watch the weather channel daily in order to have some idea of the weather along my intended routes. Now that I am retired I still watch the weather channel for some idea of the weather above our home. I certainly do not watch it for the women showing their cleavages . Why can’t you folks have some sort of dress code? Lynette Charles wears her dress so tight it looks like it was painted on her. So does Abraham’s. Abrahams has way too much drama and she could sure use a new wardrobe.
Your programming has significantly changed and not for the better. What happened to local on the 8s? It’s definitely no longer taking place on the 8s. In addition the new show pattern is a disaster. Let’s just say the male CO host is very off putting. When that show comes on, I change the channel to weather nation. In fact these days because of your programming I am finding myself tuning in to weather nation more and more.
For the Weather Channel on AT&T UVerse TV CH#1225 there is an issue with the 5 day forecast that comes up when you get on the channel. A few times per week, it will show current conditions and the supposedly next 5 days, but it skips the very next day when it does that. Since it does not do it all the time, you apparently have 2 different programmers who create the 5 day forecast. One an old timer who knows how to do it correct and the other probably bunch of new hires who only learned to code in school and not in real life.
