About Verisign

Verisign is a global provider of internet infrastructure and domain name registry services. The company also enables internet navigation for globally recognized domain names. Known to power the security, resiliency, and stability of key internet infrastructure and services, Verisign operates two of the thirteen global internet root servers. Verisign was founded on April 12, 1995, and is currently based in Reston, Virginia. In its continuing life cycle of 23 years, the company is known to have maintained a hundred percent operational stability and accuracy. Verisign provides registration and authoritative resolution services for .net and .com domains, which is the backbone of global eCommerce. Other services offered by the company include management of DNS, cyber-threat reporting, and DDoS (distributed denial-of-service) attack mitigation. Verisign sold its authentication business unit in 2010. The unit took care of the PKI (public key infrastructure), SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificate, Verisign Identity Protection, and Verisign Trust Seal. The unit was bought by Symantec for $1.28 billion. In 2018, Verisign’s Security Service Customer Contracts unit was acquired by NueStar, Inc. The acquisition transferred Verisign’s DDoS, managed DNS, fee-based Recursive DNS Services, and DNS firewall to NeuStar. The Delaware-incorporated company recorded a revenue of $1.255 billion in 2020.

Verisign enjoys exclusive rights to the .net and .com domains, which covers 44 percent of the market share. This is one of the strongest advantages that Verisign has, as the company has the rights to be the registry of the domains from Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). Verisign has to hold its end of the bargain in terms of the service levels to get these rights renewed. Currently, the agreement for Verisign is valid till November 2024, and the company can increase its annual prices by 7 percent. This is different from its previous agreements, which had a price freeze clause implemented. A considerable chunk of Verisign’s revenue comes from periodic price increases and renewals. Verisign decided not to increase the pricing for the year 2020 owing to the COVID-19 situation. With the stagnant pricing for the year, the company was able to acquire new customers and retain the existing ones.

Purchasing a domain from Verisign is as easy as it gets. You can punch in the name you want, and if the domain is available, you can make a purchase. If not, the website will give you domain suggestions that can serve your purpose. If you want to purchase the domain, click on ‘get it’. You can proceed further by choosing the domain duration, and make the payment. The extensions available on Verisign includes .com, .net, .name, .tv, and .cc. If you want to sell your existing domain, you can partner with Verisign for the same. Verisign makes customer service available to its customers round the clock.
