With increasing streaming services, we no longer have to bear endless advertisements to watch our favourite shows. One recent addition to the list of platforms is ZEE5. This streaming media company is owned by Essel Group and is operated through Zee Entertainment Enterprises. ZEE5 was launched in February 2018. The services are available everywhere except in the US, and users enjoy access to content in twelve languages. The mobile app of ZEE5 is available on Android, web, Smart TVs, iOS, and other devices. In December 2019, the company reported a user base of 56 million, and the numbers are growing fast. In 2016, Zee Entertainment Enterprises launched a digital online platform, OZEE, the services of which are now integrated into ZEE5. The platform also airs shows from the Zee Bouquet of channels, and users have access to content from Zee Cafe and Zee TV.Â
The ZEE5 platform went live with four original series in three different languages. One of the first series to be featured was Karenjit Kaur: The Untold Story of Sunny Leone. The series is based on Bollywood actor Sunny Leone and is one of the most viewed shows on the platform. So far, ZEE5 has produced more than 100 original series across all the regional languages. The platform is subscription-based, which means you have to pay to access the services. Subscribers get access to all the ZEE5 originals and exclusives, blockbuster movies, Zindagi TV shows, ALTBalaji shows, Live TV, and TV shows before the telecast. Once you avail of the subscription, you will be able to watch ZEE5 on five devices at a time. You can choose a three months pack for INR 299 or an annual pack for INR 499. You can sign up using your phone number or email address. You will be required to provide credentials such as first/last name, date of birth, and gender. Set a password, agree to the terms and conditions of the portal, and voila!
Viewers can pay for subscriptions on the app or the website using credit cards, debit cards, and gift cards. If you are on iOS, you will have to pay via Apple iTunes. Users using Smart TV or select media streaming devices can pay via Paytm QR and Amazon IAP. ZEE5 comes with parental control, and you can restrict the content as per the audience.
