About Playskool

Playskool is an American company that has made its mark in the educational toys market for children. The company is owned by Hasbro, an American multinational with a wide portfolio of family and children entertainment. Playskool was first established by Lucille King back in 1928. Back then, Playskool was a division of John Schroeder Lumber Company, based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. King developed wooden toys projected as teaching aids for children in school. Playskool became a division of Thornscraft Inc., in 1935, with offices in Chicago, Illinois. The company was later purchased by Joseph Lumber Company, with Manuel Fink as in charge of operations. Fink, along with Rober Meythaler later bought Playskool in 1940 and established the Playskool manufacturing company. In 1968, Playskool became a Milton Bradley subsidiary, and the same was acquired by Hasbro in 1984. Since then, Playskool has been functioning under the Hasbro family, and the company started expanding into other product lines. The infant product line, famous as Tommee Tippee, the makers of bibs and bottles, was released in 1985. Other Hasbro pre-school products, including the Tonka and Play-Doh, were then rebranded with the Playskool name. Some of the products from the brand do well in the market with Play All Day Elmo and Fold ‘N Go Elephant toy being nominated as the infant/toddler toy of the year award in 2016.

Playskool has been able to garner the attention of its young public with its top of the line fun toys. Some of the best-selling items from Playskool include Weebles, Mr Potato Head, Sesame Street Toys, Gloworm, Elefun, Tonka, and Alphie. The products for preschool-aged children including Kick Start Gym, Tummy Timeline, Step Start Walk ‘n Ride, are aimed at developing the motor skills of the babies. Playskool’s Pipeworks, Busy Basics lines, and Go Go Gears, are crafted to allow the children to be able to express themselves more creatively. Several dolls and figures such as the Kota the Triceratops and Dolly surprise are a hit among kids. The toy series ‘Familiar Places’ by Playskool, which was a hit in the 1970s included different toy buildings, people and vehicles.
