About Patek Philippe
‘You never actually own a Patek Philippe. You merely look after it for the next generation’ is the slogan of Patek Philippe, one of the oldest and dedicated watch manufacturers in the world. Founded in 1829, and located in Canton of Geneva, Switzerland, the luxury watchmaking company has been owned by the Stern Family since 1932.
The company was founded first by two Polish friends, Franciszek Czapek and Antoni Patek. They named the company Patek, Czapek and Cie at that time and started making pocket watches. Unfortunately, the company was liquidated on April 18, 1845 due to unresolvable difference between the two friends. Later in May that same year, Czapek along with his new partner Julius Gruzewski started the Czapek & Cie while Patek joined Adrien Philippe, the French watch maker who invented the keyless winding mechanism, and started Patek & Cie. The year 1851 started with the company’s name as Patek, Philippe & Cie. Later in 1932, the company was acquired by Charles Stern and Jean Stern and ever since then the company has been passed from one Stern to the other.
Innovation and durability are the cognitive materials that ensure the reliability and longevity of Patek Philippe watches. The individual parts of the movements and cases are in fact produced and assembled in-house. Currently, the company presents a wide range of models such as the Grand Complications Collection, Complications Collection, Calatrava Collection, Gondolo Collection, Golden Ellipse Collection, Nautilus Collection, Aquanaut Collection, Twenty¬ 4 Collection and Pocket Watches Collection. All these collections are available at any Patek Philippe authorized retailer which you can find using the Store Locator.
Having graced the wrists and pockets of many notable people in the world such as Pablo Picasso, Queen Victoria of Britain and The Beatles, the company has over 400 retail locations globally and over a dozen distribution centres spread across Asia, Europe, North America and Oceania.
Time is ageless and age is timeless at the Patek Philippe Museum which is located in Geneva. The museum demarcated over five centuries of watch making history into two important collections: the extraordinary antiques collection dating as far back as the 16th century and the Patek Philippe Collection starting from 1839 onwards. The museum exhibits more than 2000 collections including the most complicated timepiece ever; the Caliber 89. There is also a library that contains over 8000 publications on time and time measurement.
