Best known for their aluminium suitcase the Rimowa luggage manufacturing company was founded in 1898 by Paul Morszeck and Heinrich Gortz under the name Gortz and Morszeck. Heinrich left in 1900 leaving Paul Morszeck as the sole owner. The name of the company was later changed to RIMOWA (Richard Morszeck Warenzeichen) by Richard Morszeck, son of Paul Morszeck. LVMH acquired RIMOWA in 2017, making it the first Germany subsidiary of LVMH.
With a 120 years experience in suitcase production, Rimowa luggage have evolved from wood to classic aluminium to high tech polycarbonate. Aluminium became the raw materials for their metal cases in 1930 when fire burned down most of the materials in their factory. The company started using polycarbonate in 2000 and by 2008, Rimowa introduced their signatory coloured collection. Its factories are resident in Germany, Czech Republic, Canada and Brazil while the headquarters is located at Cologne, Germany.
