About Narendra Modi Stadium
India, being a cricket obsessed country, is home to the largest cricket stadium in the world. The Narendra Modi Stadium at Motera in Ahmedabad first opened in the year 1983. Formerly called the Motera Cricket Stadium, the venue underwent a major renovation in 2020, taking its seating capacity to 132,000. Owned by the Gujarat Cricket Association, Narendra Modi Stadium is spread across 63 acres of land and boasts of modern features and amenities. The first international match held here was a Test match in 1983, between India and West Indies. The stadium is currently home to the Gujarat cricket team and the Rajasthan Royals of Indian Premier League (IPL). It was built at an estimated cost of Rs 800 crore. Interestingly, the stadium was designed and built by Australian architect firm Populous, which also designed the Melbourne Cricket Stadium. The Melbourne stadium previously held the distinction of being the largest cricket venue in the world.

The renovation of the Narendra Modi Stadium was part of the state government’s proposed Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave. The enclave will include facilities for athletics, indoor swimming pool, skating arena and stadium for football, hockey and tennis. Fitted with LED lights, the Narendra Modi Stadium boasts of a built-in clubhouse, four dressing rooms with world-class facilities, three outdoor practice fields and six indoor practice pitches. Additionally, there is an indoor cricket academy with a dormitory, for training and raising fresh talent. For a truly VIP experience, you have about 76 corporate boxes. The corporate boxes are air-conditioned and can accommodate 25 individuals in each. Additionally, you will find a clubhouse with 50 deluxe and five suite rooms. For a quick snack or dining, you will find food courts at the stadium’s stands. Cricketing fans visiting the stadium will be impressed by the Hall of Fame. Here you will find a rare collection of vintage images and cricket memorabilia of legends.

In the past, the stadium had hosted matches of the World Cup in 1987, 1996 and 2011. You can track the upcoming matches or events to be held on the official website. Tickets for matches are sold by the organiser. Tickets for IPL matches are sold by the respective team and sometimes even listed on popular ticketing portal BookMyShow. For enquiries, you also can visit the Ticket Counter located at Gate 1. Cricket fans can reach the stadium on bus as well as cabs. There are a number of bus routes that connects to the stadium. Parking is available for those travelling on their automobile. You have parking space for 3,000 cars and 10,000 two-wheelers.
