About Ellis Park Stadium
Ellis Park Stadium is an impressive sports stadium located in Johannesburg, South Africa. The stadium, formerly known as Coca Cola Park, opened in the year 1928. Also known as Emirates Airline Park, as part of naming rights deal, the venue regularly hosts rugby and soccer matches. Currently, home to professional rugby teams Lions and Golden Lions, the stadium boasts a seating capacity of up to 60,000. The stadium had famously hosted the 1995 Rugby World Cup, when the national rugby team Springboks defeated New Zealand’s All Blacks. The trophy was handed over to captain by none other than Nelson Mandela. Ellis Park was also the venue for about seven matches of 2010 Football World Cup.

Besides sports matches, the stadium is visited for conferences, concerts and live events. There are currently about nine conference venues that can hold up to 1,000 people. There are also executive suites and banquet halls with best in hospitality. Ellis Park has undergone several upgrades and renovations bringing state of the art features. There is an indoor sporting arena with the same name for events and concerts, with a capacity to accommodate 5,000 people. Guests can reach the venue by train, bus or taxi. There are also parking facilities available for those driving on their automobile. Located centrally, the venue is surrounded by hotels and tourist attractions like Gold Reef Square, Johannesburg Botanical Gardens and Apartheid Museum.

Rugby fans can visit the Lions website to track the ongoing or upcoming matches. Tickets can be purchased directly through the club. For concerts and live events, you can purchase ticket on booking portals or through the ticket counter at the stadium. When visiting the stadium for a match, note that you are prohibited from bringing air horns, bottles, explosives, illegal substances, flares, unauthorised flyers or banners, and lasers, to name a few. Filming and video recording is also not permitted. To enjoy a game or event in a luxurious setting, you can explore the seating options at Lions Lounge, Platinum Lounge or the suites.

If you are visiting the city for first time, don’t miss out the tour at the Ellis Park Rugby Museum. You will find here an impressive collection of rugby memorabilia, including shirts, photos and trophies belonging to the Springboks national team. Additionally, guests are also given a behind the scenes tour of changing rooms, the pitch and dugout. Private and group tours are also available for booking. Located to the right from the main entrance, the museum is open Monday to Friday, from 8am to 3pm.
