This is a complaint regarding Duane Reade at 63rd Drive in Rego Park, NY 11374. This store has always had shopping carts, as is normal for a drug store, since many items are heavy, or heavy when combined with other products. I asked the manager where the shopping carts were and he said they didn’t have shopping carts, only baskets.(Sine when?). It’s impossible to shop carrying laundry detergent, soda, etc etc. it’s physically impossible. This is the same manager who told me last summer, that the store doesn’t have air conditioning, not that the A/C was broken, he stated twice they didn’t have air conditioning. Again, since when? I’ve shopped at this store for years and of course Duane Reade stores have A/C. The manager of this store is very strange. He expects middle aged and elderly customers to be able to carry these baskets leaden with products. I’m sure any age would find it too hard to carry baskets. I left the store and went to the nearby CVS that of course has carts. As does the other Duane Reades, except this store.
I just returned home from shopping at Duane Reade located at 1352 First Avenue. I’ve never written a letter like this to a company before however, my experience there today was so bad that I decided I’ll never return. On the off chance that anyone reading this will give a damn, I’m writing to let you know what happened. Perhaps these issues can be addressed so as not to lose any more of your frequent customers.. There are far too many drug stores on the Upper East Side of Manhattan to ever shop at a store this poorly run again. I waited 8 minutes for an employee to unlock the toothpaste for me which is bad enough, but once she finally appeared, she helped the 2 men who came after me and left me to wait even longer. I fully understand the need to lock everything up as crime and shoplifting in NYC has reached incredible proportions but how about asking who was first before you start taking things off the shelves. After that incident, I waited on line for another 10 minutes as there was just one cashier on duty. When I had paid for my 7 different items the cashier decided to alert me to the fact that the store had “NO BAGS”! The appropriate time to tell me that was BEFORE you rang everything up and took my money not after! I happen to live right across the street and managed to get home without everything dropping out of my hands but what if I had to travel many more blocks with 7 loose items? And by the way, what drug store RUNS OUT OF BAGS??!!
Lastly, while I was waiting on line to pay, a man walked in off the street with no mask on and proceeded to stroll through the store up to the pharmacy. He passed at least 2 employees and not one of them felt the need to remind him he needs to be masked. This being a drug store during a global pandemic, you would think that the health and safety of the employees and customers might matter. Apparently not.
I don’t know if the entire company is terribly run or just this particular store but either way I’ve shopped at Duane Reade for the last time.
