Sky Broadband is one of the well-known broadband providers in the UK. Offering superfast connection speeds, support for multiple devices, award-winning technical support, and unbeatable customer service, the company strives to provide the best to its customers. And with their extensive range of broadband packages to suit all needs and budgets, it is no surprise why Sky Broadband is popular across the country.

But, even with its all-around performance, Sky Broadband has been repeatedly criticised by users for its high set-up costs compared to other broadband service providers in the UK. Such costs can be a deal breaker because, usually, setup costs are non-refundable during cancellation. Additionally, if you are not subscribing to or bundling Sky TV with your broadband service, then the overall value-for-money proposition further disintegrates.

In addition to the above-mentioned drawbacks, Sky Broadband’s highest tier offers only up to 500 Mb/s stated speed, which still falls short of the 1 Gb/s stated speed offered by Virgin Media Broadband on its highest tier – and that too for a cheaper price. As a result, none of the features offered by Sky Broadband makes it stand out from the crowd, and unless you are offered a deal at a fantastic price, it makes sense to look for an alternative option.

Know Sky Broadband’s Cancellation Terms

Sky Broadband allows its customers to cancel their internet service any time they want without restrictions. However, customers must provide a 14-day notice period to the company stating their desire for cancellation, unless they are already within their cooling-off period.

According to the website, the “cooling-off period” is defined as the time frame that UK customers have to cancel their order for Sky Broadband without providing any reason. This cooling-off period is 31 days from the delivery of your wireless router, activation, or receipt of the broadband service.

If you are cancelling your broadband service within your cooling-off period, then all your payments will be refunded, which will also include the equipment delivery costs. However, if your broadband service was already up and running during the cooling-off period, then you have to pay an amount proportionate to the service that was provided to you up until the date when the cancellation request was registered.

No refund will be provided for any one-off fees for activation or setting up services if you cancel your broadband service after activation. Additionally, if any equipment order is cancelled, then any related subscription will also be cancelled unless the same is communicated to the company. Plus, if you order a managed installation and do not cancel it before 3:30 PM on the working day before the installation is to take place, the installation charges will not be refunded.

On the other hand, if you are cancelling your Sky Broadband service outside of your cooling-off period, then the previously mentioned notice period will be applicable. This is because when you sign up for Sky Broadband, a minimum contract period of 12 or 18 months will be applied to your account (unless stated otherwise). If you cancel your broadband service before the expiration of your minimum term, then you have to pay an early termination charge. The due amount will be communicated to you during your notice period, which you have to pay, after which the service will be deactivated.

Apart from that, when you cancel your service within your contract period, you also have to return any leased equipment without undue delay by following the return procedure as stated by Sky Broadband. Lastly, if you have any credit balance in your Sky Broadband account after the cancellation of your service, the same will be credited back to your bank account after 45 days.

What are the Steps to Cancel Sky Broadband?

If you are planning to cancel your Sky Broadband service by getting in touch with the customer care team, then be sure to follow the suggested steps laid out below.

  1. Start the cancellation process by first calling Sky Broadband’s customer service department at 03337592573. Phone lines are open 24 hours a day.
  2. Navigate through the on-call options so that you can speak to a customer service executive.
  3. Once a customer care agent connects to your call, proceed to provide your Sky Broadband account information and ask for cancellation. The customer care executive might ask you to state the reason for your cancellation.
  4. The customer care agent will then register your service cancellation request and let you know that the 14-day notice period has begun (unless you are within your cooling-off period).
  5. During the 14-day notice period, you will receive a final bill, which must be paid. After the successful payment of your final bill, your broadband service will be terminated.

It is recommended that you do not cancel your Direct Debit or any other ongoing payment with Sky Broadband service, because such payment information can be used to settle your final bill dues (if any).
