About Scottish Power
Scottish Power is an energy company headquartered in Glasgow, Scotland. The company is a subsidiary of Iberdrola, which is a Spanish utility firm. Scottish Power functions as a network operator for Central and southern Scotland, North Wales, Merseyside, and parts of Shropshire and Cheshire. The company delivers electricity and gas supplies to households and businesses within the licensed area. The company also generates power for supply to the grid in the United Kingdom. Scottish Power was founded in 1990, during the plans for privatization of the state-owned electricity industry. Before 1990, the UK government had already privatized the Welsh and English electricity markets by splitting the same into 12 regional electricity companies and 2 power grids. Scottish Power was formed out of the larger Scottish electrical board and gained the capacity to be both supplier and generator of the power. The company went on to acquire MANWEB, which was a regional electricity supplier to North Wales, Merseyside, and Cheshire. Scottish Power acquired Southern Water in 1996 and diversified into the water supply business too.
Currently, Scottish Power is the primary licensed electricity distributor for Merseyside, North Wales, Cheshire, North Shropshire, Central Scotland, and Southern Scotland. Scottish Power owns and maintains the high voltage electricity transmission in SPT. The company has 30000 substations which means for every hundred customers, it has got one substation up and running. With 40,000km of overhead lines and more than 65,000km of underground cables, the network of the company is vast. Valued at £10 billion, Scottish Power is growing rapidly to meet the expanding energy requirements. At the moment, it caters to more than 5.6 million customers in the portfolio, including small businesses, domestic customers, industrial and commercial customers. The company has built two retail sites in the Energy Retail campus located in Blantyre, a pumped storage hydropower station, two hydroelectric schemes, a Longannet power station, a combined Gas Turbine, and multiple other facilities.
For commercial and residential customers, Scottish Power provides a constant energy supply and takes care of potential issues promptly. Scottish Power also offers EV charging solutions for businesses that include a wide range of chargers starting from 3kW to 50kW. The company undertakes complete responsibility from the survey to installation. Businesses can avail of comprehensive health and safety standards, reporting platforms, and fully funded solutions. Scottish Power has a dedicated app for iOS and Android, which helps business and domestic customers view the bills and payment history. Users can submit the meter readings via the app to generate the bill. Scottish Power offers various tariffs to customers depending on the usage. The Business Fixed plan offers fixed energy costs for up to 3 years, the Standard Fixed plan is for customers who do not opt-in, and Standard Variable Plan is flexible with prices going up and down.
