SafeLink Wireless is a US-based wireless communication service that provides free cell phone and airtime each month to eligible customers. The service is supported by the government and is offered mainly for low-income households. The Federal Lifeline service is limited to one in every household. SafeLink is part of TracFone Wireless Inc and was launched in the year 2008. TracFone reportedly was the first to offer free cell phone service through Lifeline.
Those who are enrolled in a social service program can apply for SafeLink’s program. Once approved, the user receives a handset within a few weeks. The minutes will be automatically added to the phone. There are three different minute plans offered and they all come with text messaging, long distance calling, caller ID, call waiting and voicemail. Handsets remain active for one year.
