About New Zealand Police
The New Zealand Police is the national law enforcement agency in New Zealand formed in the year 1842. With a staff of more than 12,000 across the country, New Zealand Police is responsible for day-to-day law and order and crime control. The national police force works round the clock for public security, checking terrorist activities, investigating suspects and road traffic control. The civilian agency is headed by the Commissioner of Police. There are more than 400 stations that come under his supervision. The Commissioner of Police is accountable to the Minister of Police. As for the ranks, under the Commissioner, you have the Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Commissioner, followed by Superintendent, Inspector, Senior Sergeant, Sergeant, Senior Constable and Constable. The New Zealand Police is headquartered at Wellington.

You can report crime or seek assistance any time through the telephone helpline. The New Zealand Police in fact manages over 860,000 emergency calls a year. It’s operations are managed by the many teams and units that include Road Policing, Maritime Units, Air Support (Eagle) Unit, Dive Squad, Armed Offenders Squads, Forensics, Interpol, and Police Prosecution Service. The Police Prosecution Service in fact prosecutes about 130,000-140,000 cases each year. The criminal investigations group provides specialist services like e-crime, forensics and fingerprinting.

New Zealand Police is divided into 12 districts, 9 in the North Island and 3 in the South. The districts consist of Northland Police District, Waitemata Police District, Auckland City Police District, Counties Manukau Police District, Waikato Police District, Bay of Plenty Police District, Eastern Police District, Central Police District, Wellington Police District, Tasman Police District, Canterbury Police District and Southern Police District. The website has details of contacts and other vital information needed to serve residents. Additionally, you can pay the ticket fee or enquire about infringements and speed cameras on the website.

If you want to report stolen vehicles or missing persons, you can do same as well online. However, a full missing person report must be filed at a police station. The case then will be assigned to an officer who will follow up the progress. Browse the Stolen/Wanted section on the website to see the list of people sought by police for arrest or to note the vehicles missing. And for those who need to pay an infringement fee, you can access the Payment section to do same using credit/debit card or through net banking. The infringement is automatically filed in court if the fee is not paid before due date.

If you dint know, the New Zealand Police also provides vetting service allowing agencies to perform criminal history checks and get other relevant information on employees or volunteers. The agency will process vetting requests submitted only by approved agencies. Additionally, it also processes vetting requests for visas to selected countries. For more information or queries on reporting crime, fines, online payment, missing persons report,  or others, reach the New Zealand Police support.
