About Indian Super League
Football is gradually making inroads in a cricket obsessed country like India, thanks to the Indian Super League (ISL). The Indian Super League was formed in the year 2013 and currently has 11 clubs in the list. The teams compete in the domestic Super Cup and takes part in the international AFC Champions League and AFC Cup. Organised by the All India Football Federation, the games bring together not just emerging talent in India, but also some of the popular and decorated faces from across the globe.
The list of clubs on ISL currently consist of ATK Mohun Bagan, Bengaluru FC, Chennaiyin FC, FC Goa, Hyderabad FC, Jamshedpur FC, Kerala Blasters FC, Mumbai City FC, NorthEast United FC, Odisha FC and SC East Bengal. Without any doubt, ATK has been one of the most popular clubs, right from winning the inaugural edition title to later seasons that followed. Some of the best performing foreign players in the IPL include names like Elano Blumer, Stiven Mendoza, Iain Hume, Ahmed Jahouh, Tiri, Hugo Boumous and Marcelinho. Apparently all clubs must have a minimum of five and a maximum of seven foreign players in their team.
The teams play 27 games each across the entire season. As for the format, the teams play each in a double-robin format and at the end of the regular season, four teams will advance for playoffs.
