About Eredivisie
Eredivisie is a popular Dutch professional football league, regulated by the Royal Netherlands Football Federation (KNVB). Founded in 1956, Eredivisie is the most important league of the two in the Netherlands, the other being Eerste Divisie. There are about 18 teams that participate in the league. At the end of the season, the top team is declared as champions. The club at the bottom of the league is relegated to Eerste Divisie.
Teams in both the leagues play against each other and the competitions are widely followed at the ground as well as on televisions. While the domestic cups consist of KNVB Cup and Johan Cruyff Shield, the international cups have UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Europa Conference League. Eredivisie, which is Dutch for Honor Division, is based at Zeist, which is located in the east of Utrecht
Currently, the league’s teams consist of Ajax, AZ, Cambuur, Feyenoord, Fortuna Sittard, Go Ahead Eagles, FC Groningen, SC Heerenveen, Heracles Almelo, NEC, PSV, RKC Waalwijk, Sparta Rotterdam, FC Twente, FC Utrecht, Vitesse, Wilem II, and PEC Zwolle. Most titles have been won by Ajax Amsterdam (33 titles at the time of writing), followed by PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord. Together they are known as the ‘Big Three’ of Dutch football.
