I went to an H & R Block office located on Jog Rd In Boynton Beach FL to get my tax returns filed. This was the 2nd year in a row that I’ve used their services. Last year (2020) the agent made a $660 mistake that I had to tell him was a mistake. I’m not an accountant but he doubled dipped on income. He made the correction and all was well. The preparers charge was $385.
I used the same agent this year for my 2021 tax return and it was a nightmare. Firstly, the same format was used as well as the same schedules. Simply all he had to do was insert different numbers into the same spaces from the previous years return. I was charged $500.00. They had problems receiving evidence of my payment to them. They would not file my returns until they had the evidence of payment. I went to their office and showed them the paid receipt in person to the agent. I even emailed them the receipt 7 TIMES! They still wouldn’t acknowledge it. I felt like my filing was being held hostage until they got the receipt. Equally, my bank statements showed the withdrawal of the $500. I tried several times to call the manager of the office and got no return phone calls. To this very day, I still don’t know if they received the receipt but I was savvy enough to figure out how to file them myself and mailed the payment to the IRS.
I feel that I was overcharged since any CPA can easily be worthy of that kind of fee but for a person that most likely never went to college for accounting, I feel this was a gross overcharge.
I have an appointment tomorrow at 10AM. So H&R sends me a TEXT, asking me to sign in to fill out my “intake form.” This is something I want to do on my computer, but they make it impossible. Do they think I’m going to fill in my intake form while I’m out walking around? Or shopping in a store? No, silly, I will do it at home, on my computer like a grownup. I tried to play along and do it on my phone, but they make it impossible. I input my login and pw and then that screen is covered up by a passcode. I try to memorize it before it disappears and I guess I failed at that….
So I go to the website, which has big blocks on the screen, colored tiles, but no intake form to be found ANYWHERE. Come on guys, get it together!
NEVER again will use H&R Block. Lost my tax refund. Said it was on computer and person doing the return did not come to work. They even called to say it was completed. REALLY do they think no one knows how to use a computer but them. Unprofessional and not trustworthy. So sad.
I would strongly suggest to not use any H and R block financial services. They are holding my refund of over $2000 they won’t give me a phone number to call other than the customer service line. When I call I cannot get a supervisor I cannot get the fraud department’s phone number. I can’t get an email to even email the fraud department. They do not call and have not gotten back to me on it.
I have used hr block for that 20 plus years. I will never ever use them again. I filed my taxes this year on Jan. 5th. Irs sent refund to my bank on Feb. 18th. Hr block somehow ended up with my refund saying that I owed them from 2015. It is now 2021 and I did not owe them anything. I have been calling hr block since Feb. 20th and to this day I have not found any reason or proof for them to keep my refund. They can not give me a reason either. They tell me to call irs. The irs says its out of their hands. That I would have to contact he block. As.of today, I still have no reason or proof and no refund. I would get a lawyer but I do not have the funds to hire one. But I will not ever have anything to do with hr block ever again.
Customer service is the worst. I have been on hold at least 7 times today. Each time for at least 1 hour. Then I get transferred to another department and placed on hold for another 45 minutes. as soon as they pick the phone up, they hang the phone up. Causing you to call back in and wait another hour. to no avail. have lost a whole day of work trying to speak to someone from the DIY team. Also called in after I purchased the software several weeks ago, was told someone would be calling me back, To date, I have not received a call back. Nobody knows what they are doing, I believe the representative are told to answer the phone, put you on hold, then someone else picks up after 1 hour and hang the phone up. Just really poor customer service.
I have been using your software for federal and state for several years. This year you indicated that all was well with both. Wrong, the state of pennsylvania sent me a bill for $14.86 saying it is a penalty for not filing the first payment for required quarterly payments. You made no mention of this. What’s up? Do I need to go back to Turbo Tax? Where’s the support?
I used your on line tax filing for my federal & state of Alabama 2018 returns.
The State return was done wrong. It included my Tennessee pension with my 401(k) distributions which increased my tax liability. At first I thought my Tennessee pension was not included, so I filed an amended return through your on line filing site adding my pension. This caused my Tennessee pension to be added twice which doubled my tax liability. I sent in a check for the increase with the amended return.
I found out my Tennessee pension is NOT taxable in Alabama. I also found I could reduce my taxes by itemizing my deductions rather than taking the standard State deduction. Your on line site had automatically checked my standard deduction.
All in all, your on line filing had me paying $623 to Alabama. ($303 for the original return and $320 additional with the amended return) I have sent all those payments.
I used Turbo Tax to do the exact same return and found my Tennessee pension was not taxable in Alabama, and I could itemize and have a $9,528 deduction. This brought my Alabama tax liability to $273.
I filed an amended state return with the Turbo Tax information.
I feel I am intitled to a refund for the fees you charged for my Alabama tax return. Your online program did not produce the same results as Turbo Tax, and in fact increased my tax liability.
Please respond as to how I may receive a refund and invoke you guarantees.

For the 10th year in a row, I used your software program; everything went without a hitch, so I filed on line; the return was accepted.
Yesterday, I got a late 1099 that I was not expecting. It will increase my taxes by just $25, but I’m not sure exactly how to file it. My first thought is to file a 1040-X. Since I left part of my over payment with the IRS, it would seem to be a very easy fix. However, I want to do this right the first time.
Your program always works well for me, and I recommend it to other people. Even though my problem is not related to your program, I’m hoping that you will be willing to answer my question.
My HR Block software will not update. The update downloads and seems to install properly but when trying to efile the message comes up that the program needs to be updated. FAQ doesn’t help, I called the support phone number and that was useless. Your help in resolving this matter will be appreciated.
Note: On 02/02/2019 in the evening time about 6:31 pm cst I attempted to purchase “2018 H&RBlock Premium + State” tax software “Download” for use with Windows XP, which I have purchased for the past several years for use with Windows XP operating system, and which allows 5 free Federal Return filings, but State filings have a charge fee. Instead, I unintentionally attempted to download the “Online” version of the “2018 H&RBlock Premium + State”, which I did not want. Please cancel my attempted purchase of the “2018 H&RBlock Premium + State” “Online” version, and confirm the cancellation by responding with a confirming email. Then I will attempt to repurchase the “2018 H&RBlock Premium + State” “Download” version for Windows XP, which I have acquired for the past several years. Thank you! ! Please respond ASAP SO I may get started on preparing 2018 Federal and State Income Tax Returns.
If I am NOT HAPPY with H & R Block services on filing my taxes, can I just take back my W2’s and find some other tax preparer? I did not sign the return prepared by H & R Block.
Finished my tax return with your software. When I printed it out, schedule 7 shows we both died in 2018. Went through the edit, but can’t find were to correct. Please advise.
You sent me a CD in December, 2018, for 2018 taxes. It has a price on the front of the CD, $24.95. I authorized charge to my Visa and got it, $37.72. I went ahead and paid it as I assumed the extra was for 1 State return, Colorado. I installed the CD and have been working on 2018 taxes. I have no State. What’s going on?
About an hour ago, I purchased H&R Deluxe 2018 on line, no disc. It cost, with my coupon code, $26.45US. I tried to install it, but my Norton Anti-virus program scrubbed the product. Now I have a copy of my receipt but no program on my computer (Win 10)I need to either get an easier to install program or refund, so I can buy the CD for a hard installation.
Been a HR Block software subscriber for years and have used the Deluxe version. I am retired but still play music for hire so must file a Schedule C. It appears that Schedule C may not be part of Deluxe version this year. Hope that is not true or I will move to another company. Do not want to though.
