The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is an entrance examination test for students seeking admission in various undergraduate medical and dental courses in India. National Testing Agency (NTA) is the agency responsible for administering NEET. After the entrance test is conducted, the NTA submits the results with the Directorate General of Health Services at the Ministry of Health and Family welfare.
NEET also acts as an entrance test for more than four hundred foreign medical and dental colleges recognized by the Medical Council of India. NEET is generally conducted in May every year, and the results are declared soon after. Here is a guide to check and understand your results.
Check your Results
To check results, you may want to visit the official website of NTA www.ntaneet.nic.in. You will be able to see the “View NEET (UG)-2019 Result” tab on the screen. After clicking on the same, you will be required to enter your application number and date of birth and a security pin. After you submit the same, your results will be displayed on the screen.
You can download or take a print out of your result. It must be noted that the students can access their results through online mode only. The national testing agency (NTA) does not send offline scorecards to students.
Understanding Your Scorecard
Your NEET score is the total number of right answers four times subtracted by the total number of incorrect answers. The validity of your NEET scorecard is one year, after which it will be considered null. Apart from your details, the scorecard will reflect your application number, marks bifurcation in all the subjects (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology). The marks secured by candidates out of 720 determines the actual final rank in the merit list issued by the National Testing Agency.
You will also be able to view your Percentile, NEET category, and all India rank. Apart from this critical information, your scorecard will also display the cut-off score for counseling under 15% all India quota and NEET All India Quota rank (for 15% All India Quota), etc.
Checking and Understanding the Merit List
Students will be able to access the merit list on the official website of NTA. This merit list is then sent to the counseling body. States prepare their merit list based on the All India rank and category of the candidate. Percentile is the major determining factor in developing a merit list. The percentile, however, depends on the highest marks secured by the candidates. Admissions depend on the candidate’s rank in the merit list. Two types of merit lists are provided by NTA- AIR and AIQ.
The merit list carries names and rank numbers of candidates, who score above the minimum qualifying percentile. It must be noted that if a candidate claims eligibility, he/she will have to submit an online declaration that is to be printed along with the confirmation page, which is to be tendered during counseling.
