The rise of online banking and mobile payments in the 21st century has made it easier and swifter to transfer money. Gone are the days when you had to run to the post office or your nearby Western Union kiosk to send or receive money from someone. And that has only been possible because of payment services such as Cash App.

Formerly known as Square Cash, Cash App is a mobile payment solution that allows users to send or receive their hard-earned money quickly and effortlessly. Founded in 2013, the service is currently available in the United States and the United Kingdom, boasting an annual active subscriber count of over 70 million and more than $1.8 billion in gross profit (as of 2021).

Apart from sending or receiving money, Cash App users can also use the platform to invest in stocks, ETFs (Exchange Traded Funds), and cryptocurrencies. One of the primary reasons why the platform has become so popular in recent years is because of its convenience, near-instant payments, and no transaction fees. In addition to that, Cash App uses industry-leading security measures to protect your financial and personal information, which means that you do not have to worry about data theft or cyber fraud.

With that being said, if you have recently sent money via Cash App and have now decided to cancel it and get a refund, then our straightforward guide can help you accomplish your objective seamlessly.

Steps to Cancel Payment And Get Refund

It should be known that since Cash App allows its users to transfer funds to a recipient almost instantly, payments usually cannot be cancelled or refunded automatically. However, if the payment was sent recently, it can be cancelled, provided that there is an option to do so.

Alternatively, if you do not see the cancellation option for your payment, then you need to opt for a refund request to the user that you sent the money to. Lastly, you can also ask the receiver to directly refund your payment to you. Having said that, let us jump into the steps you need to follow to carry out either of the aforementioned processes.

Payment Being Cancelled by the Sender

  1. Start the cancellation process by first downloading the Cash App, either from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.
  2. Once downloaded, proceed to sign in to your account using your phone number or email address.
  3. After signing in, head over to your “Activity” tab to review all your recent transactions. Once done, tap on the payment that you have decided to cancel.
  4. A new window will open, and in the top-right corner, click on the three horizontal dots to reveal the hidden “Actions” menu. Under the “Actions” menu, select “Cancel Payment” (if available) and confirm the same by clicking “Yes”.
  5. Once done, your payment will be refunded back to your original payment source (Cash App account balance, debit card, or credit card).

Note: Refunds to Cash App account balances will be instant; however, for refunds sent to a debit or credit card, it can take up to five business days.

Payment Cancelled by the Sender via Refund Request
  1. Kickstart the cancellation process by first downloading the Cash App on your Android or iOS smartphone.
  2. After downloading the app, log in to your account. Once signed in, navigate to your “Activity” tab and look for the transaction you want to ask for a refund for.
  3. Click on the transaction of your choice, and a new window will open. Reveal the “Actions” menu by clicking on the three dots on the top-right corner of your screen and then selecting “View Profile”.
  4. Under “View Profile,” click on “Request” and state your explanation of why you want the receiver to refund your money and the total amount as well.
  5. Once the recipient approves the refund request, you will get your money back.
Payment Cancelled by the Receiver Refunding the Amount
  1. Before the receiver can refund your payment, he/she needs to download the Cash App and sign in to the account to which the payment was sent.
  2. Once logged in, ask them to click on the “Activity” tab located on the Cash App home screen. After that, the payment that is to be refunded must be selected.
  3. On the new window, click on the three dots present in the top-right corner of the screen.
  4. Thereafter, select the “Refund” option, followed by an “OK” confirmation.
  5. The payment amount will be refunded directly back to your Cash App account.
