The Galaxy Note series by Samsung has been a game-changer and a big success story for the smartphone maker. The Galaxy Note 20 is no different with its remarkable specification sheet and feature list. The phone has a massive 6.7 inch punch-hole display with a 1080×2400 pixel resolution which has an industry leading display quality. It has up to 8 GB of RAM and runs with Samsung Exynos 990 processor which is a 2.4 GHZ octa-core processor that yields good performance. A Snapdragon processor variant is also available for this smartphone, which is sold in few countries around the world.

On the software front, the phone comes with Android 10 and Samsung uses its One UI on top. The rear camera set up has a 12 MP major sensor, a 64 MP secondary camera and another 12 MP wide angle shooter which delivers flagship grade camera processing. The front facing 10 MP camera also does a great job paired with One UI’s additional camera features. To support these sensors to run at their prime, the smartphone is bundled with a 4300 mAh battery. It comes with 3 colour options – Mystic Bronze, Mystic Grey and Mystic Green.

Having said that, this near perfect flagship device does have its own shortcomings, much like any other smartphone. Some of it, as reported by users and experts, are laid down here along with some handy solutions.

Green Tint Issue:

Users at the Samsung discussion forum or as they like to call it, the community, have brought up the issue of seeing a green tint in their units whenever the brightness is set to minimum. The issue is clearly visible when users are watching video or streaming in low brightness with a grey/black background.

Solution:

  • Samsung rectified this issue by sending OTA updates. For many users this seemed to have fixed the problem.
  • Keep the refresh rate to 90 and resolution of the screen to medium for the time being to avoid this issue.
  • Since this is a pressing issue and you would not want to use hacks to get through, you might want to opt for a replacement from Samsung for which they would be more than happy to comply.

Auto Shutdown and Restart Issue:

Few experts have reviewed units of the Galaxy Note 20 that happens to restart or shutdown on its own. This is one frustrating problem noticed specially when you use swipe gestures.

Solution:

  • Reconfigure your swipe gesture options. Sometimes, the gesture options are set close to auto shutdown or restart and you would not know it.
  • Apps outside of Google Play Store security may cause this bug as well. To identify the app, boot your Note 20 in safe mode and start examining. Additionally you can remove all suspicious apps to see if your phone performs normally after a restart.

Edge Notification Delay:

The Edge Lighting is one of the most fascinating features of the Samsung Galaxy series. This lights up the curve edges of the smartphone whenever it is plugged in to charger or you receive a notification. Experts at Android Authority pointed out the delayed Edge Lighting issue where the notification is delayed or does not show up at all.

Solution:

  • It may not be a bug but your default setting that is causing this issue. Head to settings and under the Edge Lighting tab, select all the apps you would like to get notification from using the feature.
  • Old SD cards on your Galaxy Note 20 may add to the frustration as the directories in it do not adhere to the latest settings. Get rid of it, or switch to Samsung’s latest micro SD cards.
  • Enable all the animations or set them to default under the Developer options. Edge Lighting is a part of animation and will not function satisfactorily if they are disabled.

Auto Vibration Issue:

Some users as well as experts at Tech Droid Tips discovered a ghost vibration felt on few units similar to that of taking the S pen out for no apparent reason.

Solution:

  • A hard reset of the smartphone usually fixes this bug, but if it persists then reaching out to Samsung Care is the best option.
