About Olympiastadion
The Olympiastadion in Berlin, Germany was designed and built for the 1936 Summer Olympics. Since then the sports stadium has undergone several renovations and has hosted football matches, concerts and large events. The stadium is part of the Olympiapark Berlin and is owned by the local government. Formerly called Deutsches Stadion, Olympiastadion boasts a seating capacity of close to 75,000.
Spread across 56.626m2, the stadium is surrounded by the Osttor Plaza, Sudtor Plaza, Swimming Pool Plaza, Maifield Plaza and the Sudtor parking area. The UEFA category four stadium in the past hosted some matches of the 1974 FIFA World Cup, 2016 FIFA World Cup and the 2015 UEFA Champions League Final. Currently, it is home to the professional football club Hertha Berlin.
Olympiastadion is located in the west of Berlin and offers a number of commuting options. The U-Bahn metro line U2 or U12 has a stop at the Olympia-Stadion where you need to alight. The S-Bahn commuter rail also has a station right outside the stadium. There are plenty of parking options around the station if you are travelling on your own automobile. However, on event days it is best suggested to use public transportation.
Tickets for home matches can be purchased on the Hertha BSC website using major credit cards. You can print the ticket and carry same or have a digital copy on your smartphone to gain entry. Tickets for concerts or entertainment events can be purchased on leading ticketing portals. You can follow the Olympiastadion website to track the current and upcoming events. Premium seating options as well are available for purchase. The award winning stadium has a VIP section that includes 65 suites with in-seat dining, plush seating and other top-notch amenities.
Besides sports and events, Olympiastadion Berlin is also visited by tourists for sightseeing. The Berlin attraction has visitors from all over the world coming to tour the stadium. The individual or guided tour will take you through VIP areas, changing rooms, players’ tunnel and pitch. There is a premium tour for those who want to learn the history of German sports and architecture. No tours are available for booking on event days. Ticket prices vary for children and adults. You can purchase a ticket at the visitor centre or online on the website. Cash and credit card payments are accepted at the ticket office. The tour is open throughout the week, mostly between 9am -7pm.
