About Nexus program
nexus-card-logoTo those who frequently travel between the US and Canada, a Nexus card allows faster crossing of the border. Members of the Nexus program can avoid long queues at airport or road border entry points as a pre-approved trusted traveler. Members can also use the dedicated processing lanes at ports of entry. There are Nexus kiosks when entering Canada by air and Global Entry kiosks when entering the US. If arriving by sea, you can expedite your entry by simply calling a marine telephone reporting center. The Nexus program is supported by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA)

Only US and Canadian citizens are eligible for joining the Nexus program. Those convicted of criminal offense, found in violation of any customs, immigration or is subject to ongoing investigation cannot be eligible for a Nexus card. All applications in fact must be approved by both US and Canada. You can submit an application online using a Global Online Enrollment System (GOES) account. Payment can be made using credit card or electronic debit. Accepted credit card types include Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, and Diner’s Club.

On receiving your application and fee, your case will be reviewed after which you will be instructed to schedule an interview at a Nexus Enrollment Center. Enrollees can also mail their application and supporting documents to one of the Nexus Program Canadian Processing Centres. You can pay your application fee by credit card or through bank transfer.

If you are looking to renew your Nexus membership, it is required that you begin application renewal 90 days prior to the card’s expiration. A new application must then be submitted and the formalities for eligibility completed. If you are approved, you will receive a membership identification card. The card must be activated on the GOES account. With the card you can now drive through the designated Nexus lane or use the self-serve kiosks at airports.

Nexus lanes are located at several land border crossings that include Alexandria Bay, Blaine, Buffalo, Callais, Champlain, Detroit, Highgate Springs, Houlton, Niagara Falls, Pembina, Point Roberts, Port Huron, Sault Ste. Marie, Sweetgrass and Sumas. As for airports, you have Nexus kiosks at Calgary International Airport, Edmonton International Airport, Halifax Stanfield International Airport, Montreal Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport, Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier International Airport, Toronto Pearson International Airport, Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, Vancouver International Airport and Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport. For more information or queries on new application, renewal, payment, interview, or others, reach the Nexus customer service.
