kraft-foodsKraft Foods was founded by James L. Kraft in the year 1903. It began initially as a cheese delivery service. Six years later (1909), the business was incorporated as J.L. Kraft & Brothers. Today it is the world’s second largest food company with annual revenues of $49.2 billion. Kraft Foods brands are found in approximately 170 countries. The company employs some 127,000 people around the world. Kraft Foods is headquartered in Northfield, Illinois.

Kraft Foods manages some 70 brands that markets cheese, beverages, dairy foods, snack foods, confectionery, among others. At least 40 brands are at least 100 years old. Some of Kraft’s popular brands include Cadbury, Jacobs, Kraft, LU, Maxwell House, Milka, Nabisco, Oreo, Oscar Mayer, Philadelphia, Trident and Tang. Cadbury became part of the Kraft Foods family on February, 2010.

At least 28% of Kraft Foods’ revenue in 2010 came from confectionery products. Biscuits and beverages follow second and third respectively. Interestingly, more than half of Kraft’s business was outside North America. In August, 2011, Kraft announced plans to divide and create two independent public companies. While one would focus on the snacks business, the latter would eye the North American grocery business.
