About Halkbank
Founded in 1938, the Halkbank or Turkiye Halk Bankasi AS is one of the most profitable and efficient banks in Turkey. Halkbank is considered one of the most successful financial institutions and has been among the fastest growing banks in Europe since 2008. The firm offers commercial banking and related financial services to individuals and businesses. Currently, the bank operates in various customers segments that include corporate, SME, commercial, integrated, treasury and investment. The bank’s initial functioning dates back to the period between 1938 and 1950. The bank was initially a credit union, established to provide support to artists and tradesmen to promote the economic growth of Turkey. In 1950, the union spread out with new branches and disbursed loans to customers. It was in 1964 when Halkbank started its ambitious program of establishing a comprehensive network throughout the country. In the early 1990s, the bank embarked upon the journey to include small yet relatively unsuccessful state banks. These small banks included Tobank, Sumerbank, Emlakbank, and Etibank. In 2004, when Halkbank took over the Pamukbank, it proved to be the turning point for the financial institution. After this acquisition, the bank underwent restructuring and prepared for privatisation. In 2007, the bank’s shares were sold as a public offering, and the shares were listed on Istanbul Stock Exchange. The bank was initially headquartered in Ankara and was later relocated to Istanbul in 2015.
