On numerous occasions, I personally went into both Eastgate and Cresta Edgars stores to challenge the debt I am supposed to have accrued – as communicated via cellphone messages. Besides the time doing so, and the petrol involved, what is particularly worrying is that on every occasion, your staff members did not resolve.
My account has been paid up and I requested a paid-up letter 10 days ago. No one is assisting and even responding to my emails. I have spent hours on the phone and there is just no courtesy and customer service is non-existent.
My Wife paid up and closed her account many years ago. For the last two years we have been harassed by collection agents who call several times a month about an outstanding value but can’t tell us what was purchased or when. Surely edgars is walking a fine line regarding the Consumer Credit Act in this instance. I am convinced that their behaviour contradicts the CRA and good honest business practice.
I have been trying in vain to get my new card. I made 4 visits to the store and no one could help me promptly. The staff at the store are doing absolutely nothing . Eventually after 45 mins or so I was issued with a card but was told to call Edgars customer care to activate. I tried to call but after adhering to the voice prompts requests the phone goes dead. I have submitted e mails and no one responds.. Today I managed to get someone to assist but the agent just said sorry your card is not found on our system and that I must revisit the store to sort it out I requested to speak to a manager or supervisor and all she said that she has escalated the request and that I need to wait for 24 hours to receive a reply The services received are really bad from a chain store as big ad Edgars.
Why does Edgars keep contacting me to pay up. I haven’t been using this account for over a year. Paid more than the last settlement amount. How does these charges even occur when the account is not in use. A simpler why would be to ask the the client if they are still interested in using the account.,instead it’s easier to bill the client.
The service i have received from Edgars Vryheid is dispicable. I made a lay bye and unfortunately it lapsed, when i went to the shop they told me that i need to buy anything with the deposit, but there is nothing i want to buy, is this even legal?
I have had the same experience as Aisha. Ive had a Edgars account for many years.I paid up my account & them in 2020 received requests & continuous phone calls (up to 3 a day) requesting i pay my account. I went in store numerous times to see if the store managers could assist or guide me as to whom i need to talk to about this.So against my better wishes i paid the account in full,however i was told it was for a Edgars book which they have been charging me for which i have never asked for..I was told to call 0860111826 no answer endless times.Eventually after lock down i went into a East london store & requested a assistant contact head office i spoke to head office & asked them to close my account.I asked them for proof & they said they cant give me proof,but they assured me it was closed.
February 2021 i get a account from them saying i owe them money???
I have been trying for the past 3 hours to speak to somebody, without any success at 0860 111 826. After giving my ID numbers, etc. I am told to hang on for an agent and then the phone just goes dead. This line is unlike the insurance number 087 820 2024 where I was promptly assisted.
I cancelled my insurance and this was promptly done and I asked the gentleman to try to put me through to the accounts division to close my account as I just could not get through. He put me through but then it was the same process: ID, etc. and then cut off.
I am so desponded and stressed in the way EDGARS staff has responded
to my request for assistance.
Here is my situation.
I have an account with them for many years now and have decided that I would like to close my account in August 2020. ( I have proof of call recordings)
I had also requested viva telephone to please cancel the insurance on the account.
And sadly still nothing has been done, even up to this hour.
I had then already paid up, my account and requested them to close the account ASAP.
Still to this very hour nothing has been done, and I have called and called on
different occasions. I also have proof of all the calls that I had made on a daily base.
And still I get a calls from them, requesting payments!?.
My question to them is this …
Can you not go back to all the recording, that you have claimed to make on the calls,
when I had requested to have my account closed? Is this not to ensure quality services??
Sadly, the agents refused to hear me out and not to assist, it seems that they have decided it is simply way too much effort, and would rather just put the phone down.
I have recording of this too.
Another point , is when I had requested to either speak to the manager or team leader,
I am simply told they are never around, or they are unable to transfer me.

and Yet, I am now the one that now will be at risk to be blacklisted.
This is not fair or right.
Is there any knight in shiny amour at Edgar’s that can assist and finally
rescue the madden in distress.

To whom it may concern
With utmost regret I bought a cellphone at Edgars mobile shop in promenade on 31/12/2018
The phone suddenly went blank and I took it back to the store on 19/11/2019, as Ive been paying for insurance on the device since the day of purchase.
The device is a Galaxy J4 2018 costing R2400.00 at the time.
I’m paying R94.00 on a monthly basis for insurance.
It was discovered that there was a hairline crack that is invisible to the eye which caused the phone to go blank.
I recieved a quote amounting to R1400.00 to pay for repairs. I refused to pay the amount because I am contracted with an insurance. They then said I should pay R300.00for rejection fees. Meaning that I’d still receive a broken cellphone.
The date is 16/01/2020 and I’m still waiting for my phone.
The Edgars store is located in promenade mall, Mitchell’s Plain, Cape Town.This situation has caused me great inconvenience as I’m currently typing this email from someone else’s cellphone. I am bitterly disgusted by the customer service I recieved.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
