About Dirty Unicorns
One of the many Android Open Source Projects (AOSP) available in today’s tech marketplace that is making its place in the space is Dirty Unicorns. What started off as a one-man project based off Android Open Kang Project (AOKP) – an open-source replacement distribution for smartphones and tablet computers – today has made a name for itself with a whole team of theme makers and developers striving towards innovation. Dirty Unicorns is a free to download open source custom ROM which has gained wide popularity. It has moved to Android Oreo 8.1 with the introduction of Release Candidate (RC) 12. Armed with a new Pixel Blue themed Dirty tweaks app and with features such as Pulse, Fling and SmartBar, Dirty Unicorn’s customs settings app has an appealing appearance that places it above typical custom ROM.
The creative team of developers at Dirty Unicorn emphasize originality of features and stability in their quest for excellence. The Oreo based RC DU 12 built for OnePlus 5T has very few bugs and performance speed is extremely fast without any noticeable lag. The success of Release Candidates Dirty Unicorn builds is in no small means due to the rigorous testing protocol of Dirty Unicorn developers and their strong feedback mechanism to understand which devices were susceptible to which bugs. After a thorough testing when each supported device gets a stable build, the Dirty Unicorns JIRA system will make a note of bug reports.
The Dirty Unicorns ROM is for users who are not satisfied with the level of customization that is available on stock ROMs. DU offers a feature packed ROM. Notable among them are “Fling” which is a futuristic gesture – based navigation feature which can used to initiate applications, contacts, settings shortcuts and a host of other activities by recognizing the length of swipe or number of taps made.
For devices without hardware navigation keys, Dirty Unicorns’ SmartBar is a boon as a default navigation bar can be enabled to handle between 7 and 10 shortcuts. As the case with Fling, SmartBar can either be a shortcut to an app or activity.
Pulse, is a music equalizer in the navigation bar which gets activated when you play the music. The DU battery provides about 6 hours of on screen time, which is fairly decent.
