About Christchurch Botanic Gardens
Christchurch Botanic Gardens is a beautiful and tranquil tourist attraction located adjacent to the Avon River at Christchurch, New Zealand. Spread across 52 acres, Christchurch Botanic Gardens is visited by more than 1 million visitors each year. The botanical garden was created in the year 1863. It is open from 7am to 6.30pm daily. The visitor centre opens from 9am to 5pm. The conservatories closes at 4pm. Entry to the garden is free. There is a visitor center where you can enquire about guided tours, check out the gift shop or take a quick bite at the cafe within the complex. Volunteer guides from the Friends of the Botanic Gardens conduct guided tours daily.

There are many collections of exotic and native plant species you will find at the gardens here. The conservatories that are a must visit include Garrick House, Cuningham House, Fern House, Townend House, Foweraker House and Gilpin House. As for the flowering gardens you will find here, they include Azalea and Magnolia Garden, Central Rose Garden, Fragrant Garden, Herb Garden, Herbaceous Border, Heritage Rose Garden, Water Garden and Temperate Asian Border. Other attractions include the Archery Lawn, Beswick’s Walk, Daffodil Woodland, Pine Mound, Pinetum and Harman’s Grove.
