About CEAT Tyres
CEAT is an abbreviation for Cavi Elettrici e Affini Torino (Electrical Cables and Allied Products of Turin). It was an Italian company that started manufacturing tyres in India in 1958. The company’s Indian division was later taken over by RPG Enterprises in the year 1982, and was then renamed as CEAT Limited. With its headquarters in Mumbai and four manufacturing plants (three in India and one in Sri Lanka), CEAT Limited has about 20% of the local truck and light truck tyre market with an annual turnover of 3500 Cr.
CEAT produces not only tyres, but also market tubes and flaps. CEAT Tyres produces a wide range of tyres for different purposes and vehicles including heavy-duty trucks, buses, light commercial vehicles, earthmovers, forklifts, tractors, trailers, cars, SUVs, motorcycles, scooters and auto rickshaws. Moreover, its products are exported to over 110 countries across the world including USA, Australia and some European companies. Over the years, CEAT has received a number of accolades and awards from a range of institutions.
CEAT mentions its vision as “To be amongst the most profitable tyre companies in India by 2016 through Market Leadership in select categories in India and Market Leadership in significant countries outside India.” It is this vision that has helped to establish the company’s position in the market with corporate alliances with major automobile giants in India including Hero Motocorp, Honda, Mahindra, Piaggio, Maruti, Tata and Eicher.
The company has always looked at long term benefits over short term gains and hence, has invested in strong Research and Development (R&D) facilities. CEAT regularly comes out with new innovative tyre models for the Indian domestic market as well as foreign markets. This R&D strengths have helped the company establish thorough quality control with extensive quality checks. In fact, CEAT is the only tyre company to be awarded the ISO/TS 16949:2002 certification, which is a combination of ISO 9000 and QS 9000.. It is also the 1st indian tyre company to get a TUV certificate.
Another programme that garnered huge interest in the company was the setting up of the CEAT Cricket Rating (CCR) in 1995, the first international Cricket Rating System to reward and recognise the performances on annual basis. Over subsequent years, CEAT has also introduced the CCR Best Bowler, CCR Best Batsman, CCR Best Cricketer and CCR Best Cricket Team as well as CEAT Under 19 and T20 ratings.
