A subsidiary of the CK Birla Group, Hindustan Motors was a pioneer in the automobile industry, coming up with popular models such as the Ambassador car which is widely used across the country. The company currently has three manufacturing plants – one at Uttarpara in West Bengal, second at Tiruvallur in Tamil Nadu and third at Pithampur at Madhya Pradesh.

Hindustan Motors has technical collaboration with Mitsubishi Motors which has produced passenger cars such as Lancer, Cedia and Outlander. In the past, the company had collaborations with OKA Motor Company Australia, Izuku Motors, Vauxhall Motors and Ricardo Consulting Engineers Ltd.
