About Australian Football League
Australian Football League (AFL) is a sports league that was founded in the year 1897. The professional football league in Australia, founded first as Victorian Football League, has 18 teams spread over five states. The recently held 2017 Toyota AFL Grand Final had an audience of 3.5 million. The entire year it attracted more than 15 million spectators. Total membership of the 18 AFL clubs also crossed the 900,000 mark. Australian Football no doubt is one of the major sports in the country and is among the largest individual business sectors within the sports and recreation industry.
AFL does not have divisions and conferences like other sports leagues. It has a single table system. Currently, a majority of the teams remain in Victoria. Others are spread across South Australia, Queensland, Western Australia and New South Wales. The names of the clubs are: Adelaide (Crows), Brisbane (Lions), Carlton (Blues), Collingwood (Magpies), Essendon (Bombers), Fremantle (Dockers), Geelong (Cats), Gold Coast (Suns), Greater Western Sydney (Giants), Hawthorn (Hawks), Melbourne (Demons), North Melbourne (Kangaroos), Port Adelaide (Power), Richmond (Tigers), St Kilda (Saints), Sydney (Swans), West Coast (Eagles) and Western Bulldogs (Bulldogs).
