As Amazon has continued to inextricably infiltrate our lives, our reliance on online shopping has encompassed and replaced most other physical shopping. Even for those things you would usually physically shop for, such as your clothes and shoes. And while you can buy your toilet paper on Amazon without the worry of it not being wide enough around the chest for you, the same cannot be said of your apparel. And so begins your hunt for the Amazon return policy. Fear not, we have all the relevant information compiled for you below.
Buying clothes and shoes are a different kind of hassle. Sometimes things just don’t look as good after wearing them yourself, sometimes they don’t fit quite right, and sometimes they don’t fit at all! No matter how fastidious your measurements are, shopping your closet online is always a gamble. Thankfully, Amazon know this and they have you covered.
Is it returnable?
Generally clothes and shoes are returnable, but the best thing is to check. If you are using the Amazon mobile app, the return policy of the item should be listed below the “Buy Now” and “Add to cart” buttons when you click on it. On their website it should be listed under the “Add to Cart” button as well, on the right hand side of the screen when you are looking at the details of the item. It should say either that the item is returnable, or non-returnable.
Amazon will allow returns for items that have been damaged in transit, or have shipped without all parts and accessories. You need to ensure you have the original packaging and tags intact in order to return on this basis.
Are you exercising in it? Watch out!
Yes, you read it right. Contrary to its usually 30-day return window, Amazon has a 10 day window only for sweatshirts, hoodies, trackpants, joggers and thermal knitwear. For outerwear as well, items such as jackets, blazers, coats, sweaters and… bathrobes, you will have ten short days to decide whether or not you will be keeping them or returning them.
Return of clothes and shoes
Aside from the garments mentioned above, you get 30 days to return any clothes and shoes you have ordered on Amazon India. As with most other items, keep on the tags, preserve the packaging, any warranty cards and accessories included with your package. The item must be in its original condition, so ensure you have checked for and removed any accidental stains or marks. Some clothing items are not allowed to be returned as a rule, for hygiene concerns. Any kind of lingerie, be it a sports bra or a cute bralette is not going to be accepted for returns. The same applies to swimsuits and inner body garments such as your pants, boxers and spanx. Socks are included in this category too. For shoes, you need to be careful not to get the sole dirty since this would mean it is no longer in original condition.
Doing the deed
Amazon will usually provide you with return labels. For items that Amazon has shipped, shipping costs under 100 INR will be refunded by Amazon, as well as the cost of gift wrapping if you have purchased it. They should process your refund within three to five business days and return the money to the bank account/ PayPal account that you used for the initial purchase. If you have used a gift card, your Amazon Pay balance will reflect the change within two hours of the return. If the shipping is not done by Amazon, but a third party, you will have to contact them for reimbursement through Amazon.
