Once a child takes birth in the country of Russia, the first official document that proves his/her identity is the ‘Certificate of Birth’. The birth certificate is the sole primary document that should be prepared within 30 days from the date of birth of the child and will be necessary for obtaining passports, visas, personal identification, police certificates, employment and insurance.
The birth certificate will contain information regarding the name of the child, names and surnames of the child’s parent(s), date and time of birth, the locality where the child was born as well as the birth registration number. It should be known that both parents should be present during the birth certificate application process in case of informal relationships or joint residence. But, if the parents are married, then the presence of one parent along with the marriage certificate should be deemed enough by the issuing authority.
To obtain a birth certificate in Russia, the following set of supporting documents will be required: birth documents of the child which have been issued by the hospital, the marriage certificate of the parent(s) and an application statement (written or verbal) issued by the parent(s) of the child. However, in the case of a legal representative, the certificate containing the power of attorney should be showcased before the issuing authority.
