Phenomenal price drop but you bit the bullet just seconds before? Days before? We’ve got you covered. Amazon has a solid refund policy in place for its customers. Their terms and conditions are written out in a way that is easy to read and understand for the average shopper, and 30 days are allowed for pondering over the level of happiness with a purchased product.

But the issue of a partial monetary refund on an item’s price following a price drop is more tricky. Seven days is the cutoff point that Amazon has imposed on its customers in these cases. As of the time of writing, if you have purchased something within a week of its price dropping, you will be able to get a refund on the difference. One caveat – this policy only applies to products shipped and sold by amazon. So anything you have bought that was offered by, or shipped by other vendors are not applicable to this refund. How do you go about getting a refund then?

You need some help from Amazon, so once you have logged into your Amazon account, go to the help section and click on the “Need more Help?” link. From here, click on the box which says “Returns & Refunds: Return or exchange items/ Print return mailing labels”. Here, you should be able to select an item for a refund from a list of your recently purchased items by clicking on it.

There will be a section now, where they ask you the reason for requesting a refund for your item. Select the “Other” option from the drop down menu. After this, there will be a text box where they will ask you to explain your choice. Type “partial refund due to price change” or similar, and submit your request.

Alternatively, you can use the “Contact Us” button on the Amazon menu, and follow the same steps after clicking on “Returns and Refunds” from the drop down menu that will appear on the form. Easier still is sending them a friendly email, including your order invoice and mentioning that the price has dropped in the last seven days since you have purchased the item. You can also give them a call and explain your issue and request a refund on the price drop of the product you have purchased. Amazon also has an instant chat feature where you can contact a customer service agent who will guide you through the process. Amazon’s social media accounts on Facebook and Instagram are also available for customer outreach to help with problems such as these.

Although seven days seems a short window for price drops, Amazon have had to reduce the time on their price-drop refund policy owing to the fact that it became too popular. Initially the period of refund was 30 days from your purchase, and after increasing demands from customers requesting compensation after price drops, this part of their refund policy was removed completely. However, at time of writing, they have the refund policy back in place, albeit for 7 days rather than a month. Take advantage of it while you can!
