About Ziraat Bankasi
Ziraat Bank is a Turkish financial service institution founded in 1963. The bank is the second largest in the country as per the asset valuation. One of the oldest in the sector, the bank currently serves more than 30 million customers in 20 countries. Ziraat Bank operates 2000 branches and has 7000 functional ATMs. The bank makes extensive use of technology to have an edge over the competition. The digital transformation initiated by the bank also focuses on its reach to the younger population in the country. The history of the bank dates back to the 19th century when foreign banks started their operations in the Ottoman Empire. This was the time when there was not enough capital to form a national banking system in Turkey. The country without any domestic banking structure posed a setback to farmers who had to borrow money on high interest from usurers. This soon paved way for the first agricultural institution operated with state guarantee. This institution was Homeland Finds, which was later renamed as Ziraat Bankasi in 1988. Ziraat Bankasi has played a significant role in strengthening the agricultural finance mechanism in the country. In 1993, other divisions including the Ziraat Bank Moscow, Turkmen Turkish Commercial Bank, Kazakhstan Ziraat International bank and Uzbekistan Turkish Bank were founded. Emlak Bankasi also merged with Ziraat Bank in 2001.
Today, Ziraat Bank is known as being one of the pioneers who shaped the country’s banking sector. The bank provides customers with Internet banking, telephone and mobile banking, and is continuously working on other banking channels to make transactions easy. Ziraat Bank also provides payments systems, including credits and investments. Currently the bank caters to three segments of customers. The retail sector includes products like accounts, loan, cards, payments, services, insurance, investments and pension. The SME segment takes care of accounts, cards, loans, foreign trade, cash management, POS services and investment. The commercial sector includes products and services like accounts, loans, foreign trade, cads, cash management, investment and agriculture.
