Joined the world gym in Guelph, Ontario this past Wednesday. I cancelled my membership the following night. I was completely unimpressed and this was after leaving a crunch fitness that was an old run down world gym. I switched over to world gym and I asked my usual questions before asking to sign up. I ask to see the club, I ask if guest are allowed and if so how much so I pay to be given this privilege. I was told the vip membership allows you to bring guests and that the fee would be 14.99. I agree to it and signed up since there was no trial offers for trying out the gym without paying. I was however told that I could cancel within 10 days with a full refund if I wasn’t pleased so I went ahead with it. I brought my gf with me the next night after I did my first workout alone. I approach the front desk to inquire about signing in my guest. They had paper forms for guests to fill out, and my gf was told to hand over her id. I was never told my guest need to prove who they are with Id so my first day I’m inconvenienced with having to drive back home for my gfs wallet. I come back and I’m told my guest can’t stay past 8. I was never told these fine print rules when I was asking about bringing guests before signing up. It ticked me off because the time it took to go back to get my gfs id, cost us the time we needed to workout within guests allotted timeslot. I never would have signed up if I knew I had to rush to the gym every night in order to have someone come with me. I was paying your top fee after all to have guest privileges, not these part time privileges. So I go to cancel my membership. I’m given a piece of printer paper and I’m told to write down my reason for leaving. On a blank piece of paper, sign and date it. Professional. Then I ask for my refund since I had only been there for a day. You guys took my payment real quick with debit but I’m told I have to wait for a check to come in the mail and it might take over two weeks. Are you fucked? And this was after I had to sign a waiver form and buy tanning goggles to use a tan booth that I’ve used many time before with the tanning equipment that was sold to the crunch fitness I was just using. I want my refund and I’m told it’s a process. Is pleasing your customers even a policy?
I would like you to know that the staff at your Worcester, MA location is so unbelievably unprofessional that it caused me to immediately terminate my membership to your club, after over a year of patronage. I brought guests into the gym with me today for a workout. We lifted together (I also have a video of me doing the actual lifting), and was berated and accused by your staff of “training” my friends on the side and “stepping on the male trainers toes.” They even had the audacity to claim I wasn’t “working out” (again, video evidence and 2 witnesses can attest that I was). I was approached and unkindly spoken to while I was *seated on a machine in the middle of my workout* (that apparently I “wasn’t doing”), **in front of my guests.** To say I was appalled and mortified hardly covers it. Since when do paying customers get treated like criminals in your facility? Do you realize by me bringing guests to your gym that perhaps it might increase the chances of them signing up as members? There was NO tact from the staff in dealing with this issue, nor was there any semblance of professionalism when handling my cancellation and my verbal complaint about how I was targeted and singled out like that. I am furious and have already submitted a complaint to the BBB as well as a negative Google review. I have many contacts in the fitness industry since I do work in this field and I will be happy to let them all know never to give World Gym their business. They had no right to treat me that way. I have every right to tell my friends that their form is off if it could potentially harm them. Disgusting.
I have been a member at World Gym North Bay, Ontario since just after it opened in our city. Each time myself and my husband attend the gym close to closing time, the front desk person feels the need to ‘advise’ of the closing time.
The last 2 times I have attended the experience has gotten agressive. One Saturday at 10 minutes to the hour the desk attendant closed the change room lights leaving me in darkness (thankfully I was pretty well changed, so I could see my way out). If I had been in either the bathroom or showers, it would have been dangerous.
Friday April 27th my husband and I were told that the gym closes at the said time, and I responded fairly enthusiastically “if someone tells me 1 more time when this place closes I am going to scream”. I did not yell or swear, I just advised that after coming to the gym for the length of time it has been operational I should know when the gym closes and the advise is not appreciated..it litterally makes you feel like you should not be coming in. Being in my 50’s I cannot understand how one works in an environment where they can be playing X-Box at the front desk when they are ‘AT WORK’. This fellow made it clear that he didn’t care how I felt and became confrontational in his speech. I went to work out and upon leaving the facility this same person said “By the way my name is Peter if you want to complain”. I barely glanced at him as he leaned over the counter literally trying to once again “get in my face”. At this point I am really thinking of letting everyone I know of how World Gym North Bay treats their customers.
Between the unsafe practise of closing changeroom lights before the actual closing time and the absent work-ethic of their employees who attempt to bully customers in rude tirades, I am hard-pressed to find anything positive about World Gym North Bay.
