The Turkish National Police (TNP) is the official police force responsible for law and order in Turkey. The agency, headed by the Director General of Police and operating since 1845, is responsible to the General Directorate of Security. It operates in each province under a governor. There are currently 81 Directorates of Provincial Police and in it there are close to 834 police stations. The list includes Adana, Ankara, Balikesir, Bursa, Gaziantep, Hatay, Istanbul, Izmir, Kocaeli, Konya, Manisa, Samsun, Sanliurfa, among others. TNP works round the clock to ensure there is peace and order, prevent terrorist activities, arrest criminals and provide public safety when required.
