About Sri Lanka Police
Sri Lanka Police is the government agency responsible for maintaining law and order in the island nation of Sri Lanka. With the motto “Dhamema havay rakakhati dhamamachari”, the police force employs more than 76,000 and is managed by the Ministry of Law and Order. Sri Lanka Police is headquartered at Church street, Colombo. It’s network spans more than 2,000 stations.

Formerly called Ceylon Police Force, the national police force was formed in the year 1866. It is headed by the Inspector General of Police. There are various departments and units focusing on specific areas. They include Special Task Force, Criminal Investigation Department, Terrorist Investigation Department, Police Narcotic Bureau, Children & Women Bureau and Marine Division.

The crime-investigation units include Colombo Crime Division, Police Narcotic Bureau, Children & Women Bureau, and Human Rights Division.
