Formed in the year 1995, the national police force was earlier known South African Police and Homeland police agencies. The law enforcement agency has a network of more than 1,130 police stations and employs close to 200,000.

SAPS governs the provinces – Limpopo, Mpumatanga, Gauteng, Swaziland, North West, Free State, Lesotho, Eastern Cape, Northern Cape, and Western Cape.

The government agency has the responsibility to prevent and investigate crime, maintain public order, uphold law, create safe and secure environment and prevent anything that threaten safety of community. It operates round-the-clock call centers to receive complaints and crimes. You can reach the numbers for reporting a crime, report missing person and sexual offenses, among others. Additionally, you can walk in to the nearest police station to report a crime. Locate a branch on the website.
