I had the pleasure of staying at the Sama sama hotel recently on a return trip from Nepal to New Zealand. Generally speaking the standards were very high, but a few things concerned me,which you might want to consider in future improvements. Firstly the room I was in had two printed framed pictures on the wall in the bedroom area depicting a Malaysian village scene with young children in a boat. One was of a young naked girl of 9 or 10 years old. This is displayed in a number of rooms. In view of the dress code in Malaysia I found this offensive, not only for the nakedness of the girl, but because this is somebody’s daughter/grand-daughter, and it is most likely nobody obtained their permission to take such photographs and hang them on the walls of an international hotel. Could I suggest you remove them as it does your reputation no good at all and it s not in line with the general religious faith of Malaysia.
Secondly, the extra tax required of foreigners is all very well, but put it in the general account, and not as an add on because it is a nuisance that a hotel guest can do without at 6 am in the morning. Just put a line on the account saying that the tax is included.
Thirdly, the $200 bond on booking in just in case a guest takes a ‘souvenir’ is too high. There are a lot of ‘souvenirs’ in $200. Maybe $100. In addition a guest does not want to be looking at a price list of what a ‘souvenir’ will cost him/her should she decide to take one. Maybe a more positive way could be to say – ‘The following are free to guests- I) Notepad 2) Pencil etc. and then say ‘ any additional items will incur a charge from your bond’.
I hope these suggestions will be of some help.
