About Rentalcars
Rentalcars.com is a car rental platform launched in the year 2010. Part of The Priceline Group, the company is headquartered in Manchester, UK and employs close to 1,200 professionals. The brand is available in over 49,000 locations across 163 countries Each year, it handles more than 8.5 million bookings. Rentalcars operates mostly as a broker and does not run its own network of fleet. Some of the top brands it works with include Hertz, Avis, Europcar, Alamo, Budget, Enterprise, Dollar and Thrifty.
Travellers can search and compare cars on the website or smartphone app. The search results will throw up the different vehicles, from small hatchbacks, to SUV’s and luxury vehicles, besides price. You can read the features and extras a booking comes with. Rentalcars requires all drivers to have a passport and an international driving license. A credit card is also required when picking up the car.
Payment for booking can be made using Visa, MasterCard and American Express cards. The main driver must be in possession of a credit card in their own name when picking up the car. Confirmed booking can be viewed by signing into user account on the website. As for cancellation, Rentalcars provides full refund if cancelled before 48 hours. There might be charges otherwise, please read the terms and conditions before confirming an order. For more information or queries on payment, refund, cancellation, locations, or others reach the Rentalcars customer service.
I had no problems with rentals cars.com in the past. This last trip, I rented through their website. They outsourced car rental company, Inbocars car rental. I paid $217.00 for the rental through rentalcars.com. Knowing that I would have to pay additional charges for Florida’s sunpass for tolls. As the voucher from rentalcars.com stated, bring your identification, vehicle insurance policy and or insurance cards to show your vehicle insurance covered the insurances listed that the rental car company listed, it would be covered. That is a line of bull crap. I arrived at the rental car company, Inbocars car rental in Florida (outside Orlando airport), was charged an additional $79.50 for a car rental fee (didn’t I already pay this through rental cars.com YES). An additional $35.99 for TPL-SLI insurance which I had coverage.
The clerk didn’t want to look at my insurance, stated that I had to pay this $35.99 fee for the rental, not daily, but per rental. To me that means, one time fee per the rental for the week, instead he charged me $179.95. He overcharged me by charging me for this insurance daily. I tried to dispute it at the counter, but failed to win my case. I tried to fight it with my credit card company, but however, I did not have a receipt as the clerk didn’t give me a receipt. Returned the vehicle in the same condition as I received it and with a full tank of gas. It was Easter Sunday, office closed.
The shuttle arrived just as I arrived. The driver stated we were all set. I could not get a receipt for services and the rental agreement is not considered a receipt. Oh they are smart they are, the charges on the rental agreement did not match the total charges on my credit card statement, therefore I could not dispute the overcharges with my credit card company. This is crap. I refuse to rent through rentalcars.com ever again and I am telling everyone I know not to deal with them. Yes, I called Inbocars and they did not return my call. I also sent them a text message and they failed to get back to me. I am out $223.46. all because I failed to research these companies. Rentalcars.com needs to do better at investigating no name rental car agencies.
Reserved and paid for car with full insurance with a guaranteed shuttle service. Upon arrival at Liverpool airport at 11.00 pm, I phoned the company to get picked up only to be told I could either walk 20 minutes to the Rentalcars agency or pay £4.00!I paid the fee and was taken to the agency. As I had booked an early morning return flight I asked the agent what time the shuttle bus would take me to the airport only to be told that I could either take a taxi £15 (if one was available, or do the 20 minute walk! I was then asked for my credit card to cover costs??
As I only have a debit card I was told I would have to pay an extra £35 per day of the rental! At this point I left the agency, refusing to take the car as there was no guarantee I would make my flight back in time and the company obviously can not be trusted with any hidden charges upon returning the car. I was stranded in an industrial zone but I finally made it to my father’s funeral thanks to UBER. I have since written and telephoned to no avail, their lack of customer care is disgusting. Don’t use them, go with Europcar, I’ve never had a bad experience with them.
I booked a car to collect from Green Motion in Newcastle. The deposit to be paid using my credit card was £1205, but Green Motion would only block £500 on my card. To get the car, which I needed urgently to attend a critical medical, I had to pay an additional £180, this being approx 65% of the amount of the rental agreement with Rental cars. There is no dispute resolution available until after the period of rental is complete. Why? The money was demanded by Rental cars appointed agent under duress.
Do not rent from these people. They told me they would look for a car that I could pick up using a debit card. I paid. Then they told me I could only use a credit card to collect the car. I don’t have a credit card. They keep your money and leave you without a car.
I rented a prepaid car on Rentalcars.com (#783 971 552) over a year ago. I paid 506.00US$. 45 days before taking the car I canceled the reservation. I have been trying for 60 days for my refund and Rentalcars just doesn’t refund the money. Every day Rentalcars presents a different reason for not returning the money (the money will be deposited, the money is in the finance department, we had problems with the system…). Don’t rent cars from them. If you need to cancel, they don’t refund anything and keep the customers’ money.
On January 24, 2019, I paid $365.05 for a 6 day rental of a Standard Size car in Edinburgh, Scotland. The Rental Voucher which is attached shows that this rental included FULL PROTECTION. When I went to pick up the car, I was informed by the clerk that rental insurance coverage I had obtained through RentalCars.com would not cover the vehicle. He showed me a piece of paper which stated “Please note that we do not accept either personal car insurance policies or any third party waiver products (ie,. those that can be purchased online via a Broker or similar trader)”. I was told that I MUST buy Europcar’s policy to get any coverage on the vehicle, and the cost would be an additional 245.09 British Pounds. (see attached).
Either the clerk at Europcar was lying about my needing to buy additional insurance, or RentalCars.com misstated their coverage as “Full Protection”, when in fact it was not.
I had a similar problem. I booked and paid for full insurance in advance. When I arrived at the airport desk to collect the car they told me firmly that the policy I had paid for did not cover me for key things and that I had to pay for insurance. The initial rental was £173 and I had to pay an additional £294 on car collection. it would have been much cheaper and easier to go to a reputable company such as Europcar, Avis or Hertz.
Never again.
Again I have made a mistake and booked through this website! I clicked on the option. “Pay in full on arrival” the full amount has been taken from my account. I contacted the company by chat which was a complete waste of half an hour. The person on chat had no idea how to rectify the situation. I asked him to contact me via email due to lack of help.
This was 1 week ago now.
My precious experience was similar. Unable to contact anyone and then told to “calm down” by a staff member when my tone changed slightly.
Terrible company!
I need my refund ASAP I’m taking this as a scam. I will file a complaint to police and TV station to air the scam to warn people not to use this website’s for booking a ride.
Beware… despite being assured that cancellations and amendments are free, Imfound out that this was nit the case when I changed a booking from Thrifty to Keddy through Rentalcars, com
I was charged a total of £37 uk sterling and informed that it was not the fault of Rentalcars but that of the car hire company. This is misleading as Rental cars saybtgey make no such charges when booking. I am a returning customer of many years but after this year I intend to take my business elsewhere. I find the whole thing most unsatisfactory.
I have used rentalcars.com before with no hassle; however, my most recent transaction with them was very unsatisfactory. I booked a 4-day rental from Daytona Beach International from 3/19/19 to 3/23/19 and received my confirmation. I do not remember giving them my wife’s credit card number, but they said I did, as I listed her as the only driver. The car was for her personal use while 4 related families took a vacation. However, her brother travelled down several days earlier with his wife and purchased a car in Orlando, finalizing the sale on Monday, the 18th. The purchase of this car meant my wife would have access to the car, along with the new owner’s wife, and a couple of sisters.
Thus I didn’t need the rental car anymore. So I started trying to cancel online about 10am on the 18th, some 34 hours before pick-up on the 19th; however, I had no luck, I searched at length to find a phone number for customer service, and did find a number; however, the line would never ring, and seemed to be inactive. I finally got in touch with a lady through chat, and first she simply told me that I would be paying a cancellation fee of $81 of an expected $149 bill because I was cancelling after the 48 hour deadline. I wasn”t too worried because I always make reservations that allow payment at pick-up; however, the lady then told me I had already been charged on a credit card for over 2/3rds of the total. More inspection determined the card was my wife’s, and when I told the lady that I did not give out my wife’s card number because I did not have it.
She then accused me of fraudently contacting them posing as my wife, and said she would answer no more questions from me, only the wife. I guess I can understand that even though I completely made the booking, using my e-mail account which was send confirmation and rental info. I also guess I must be guilty of not reading the fine print, but that does not matter for I will NEVER darken the doors of “rentalcars.com”.
I personally did finally manage to cancel the reservation online, though I certainly didn’t need to fraudently pose as my wife, and at a cost to her of over $80. Its a shame that businesses need to go to such length to deceive and profit from a returning customer, when the customer had the most honest of intentions.
Goodbye, rentalcars.com, and good riddance!
I wish I had seen all these negative comments before using Rentalcars.com. I is impossible to contact them either by e-mail or by phone. I eventually managed to have a live chat online and told them that I had been trying to contact them to cancel my booking. They gave me no reason why there is no way of contacting them and that he would cancel the booking and the money refunded in 5 to 7 working days. I requested a reference number and was told I would receive one within 24 hours. I have not received any reference and it is now 48 hours. The money was deducted from my account within 2 days, why should I have to wait for 5 to 7 working days. When I went to their site for a live online chat it is again not available yet they claim their customer service is available 24/7.
I need the money refunded in order to pay for fuel for my holiday.
I will never use them again. I would rather go directly to a car rental company
OMG I am so frustrated there is no way of contacting this company they charged my credit card with out sending me confirmation and I have no way of sorting it out grrrr I want to cancel my booking !
hi Kirstin Robinson
have you received any answer from them. i also tried to book today and they took my money without any booking of a car. i am phoning their number but no one is picking it up.
I rented a car to be picked up in Fort Lauderdale on Nov 30, 2018, and upon my arrival to the rental car company(Economy), I was informed that my insurance was not sufficient and I was required to pay a $1000.00 deposit or purchase additional insurance a $7.95 per rental day and the deposit would be 1 cent, totally unexpected since I had just rental through Rentacars.com(EZ Car Rental in July with no problem.
I received an email from Rentalcars.com informing me that the next time I book a car thru them they will be sharing my personal data with their “sister” affiliates so that I can be lambasted with vultures selling more services to me.
Consequently I have been trying everything to locate an email address to reply, but all email address identified on various websites go nowhere.
So:
I DO NOT give you permission to share my personal data with Booking.com or anybody else!!!
If I book a car thru you it is with the expectation that you will protect my personal data and not send travel vultures my way.
I am very competent at locating any and all other travel plans myself without being hounded by third party service providers.
So DO NOT pass on my personal information to ANYONE.
Thank you,
Jim Baxter
Please do not hire from rental cars as they are one of the worst in customer services and are really not interested in your case once they have had your money. Been trying to get information on my case and have had minimum response in 14 days that’s after me chasing them for up to 40 minutes on the phone. Incidentally the case is still not resolved.
I have sent three emails and no reply, I hired a car through you but wanted to cancel the insurance as when we picked the car up they stated that that Imsurance wasn’t any good if the car got scratched or anything so o took those insurance out so I want a refund like your website states!! Can someone come back to me ASAP
Dear Rentalcars.com Team.
I hope this email finds you well!

So for pick up time i put 8 am on 22nd and for drop off i put 21 PM on the same date.I booked.Money were taken from my credit card but when ? received the email and checked my details i found that pick up is at 8 am on 22nd and drop off at 9 am!I rented a car for one hour???I cancelled the booking immediately! This booking number was 526459697
I did second one!Reference number 567624958!Same Story! On the email details it says only one hour renting time!Luckily the hotel is close to the office of Goldcar is very close.I went and i showed them the reference number of the second booking which was still active! They also confirmed with big surprise on their face that the rent is just for an hour!!How can you rent a car for an hour for 25 euros? They said that probably its software problem and to cancel this one contact you and make another one but to put pick up the next day on 23rd.I cancelled for the second time.I tried to contact you but the live chat was closed and the phones were off because was after 22 PM
I made a 3rd one this time i put drop off 23rd in the morning and guess what this time it worked!!!
I do believe that its a software problem with your website which dosent allow you to put pick up and drop off in the same day!
I am providing you with screenshots of everything including with my successful booking!
I think i should not be charged not even an euro for the first 2 bookings because it is absolutely not my fault and on top of that i still decided to make a third attemt because i was sure it is some kind of software issue.I have to be fully refund plus not charged for cancellation! You can call even the office of Goldcars at Milano Airport she can confirm that in the system the renting was just for an hour!
Please have a look carefully at my screenshots and contact me ASAP
Tomorrow i can be found on my european number the hole day which is +359878309201 but the day after i will be out of europe

I booked and paid £357.56 to Rentalcars.com (booking ref 395524602) for a rental car from Thrifty on 23 Jan 2018. The car was used from 15 July to 21 July 2018 in USA. I discovered on return to UK that Thrifty have charged me the full amount as if I had not paid Rentalcars although I showed them the rental agreement when I rented the car. I have tried to phone Rentalcars and Thrifty but just get a computerised response. Please will you refund me the £357.56
This is a complaint about the above rental in Majorca with Goldcar. I have a number of issues, as follows:
1. The major one concerns the excess insurance which we were blackmailed into taking out on pickup despite us insisting that we had annual excess insurance cover with insurance4carhire.com. This cost a ridiculous 229 Euros for 2 weeks. We were told that, without this, even a single scratch would cost 600 Euros! If we did not take the excess insurance, they would take 1100 Euros on my credit card and would not return this for 30 days after we returned the car. I have never dealt with a car hire company which was so aggressive or expensive.
2. Goldcar also took something like 80 Euros in case we did not return the car full. This is extremely insulting and unnecessary – I had signed to say we would return it full and this was tantamount to calling me a liar.
3. I had booked a Ford Escort but was supplied with a Citroen!
4. The fuel tank was not full when we drove the car away but, after spending 45 minutes at the pickup desk, we could not be bothered to go back to complain.
5. There was no water at all in the windscreen wash bottle.
6. The girl at the pickup desk was both rude and disrespectful. She just laughed at the points we were politely making.
7. We were not alone in having issues with the excess insurance. The customers on both sides of us were having almost identical conversations.
8. Finally, Goldcar are the worst rental company I have dealt with in the last 40 years of travelling abroad. If I had to score them out of 5 I would give them zero. Please REMOVE THEM from your list of companies so that other customers can be spared our experience.
I shall be emailing again after we have returned the car as I suspect we shall have further problems getting the fuel deposit back!!
My booking reference is 533173463
I noted in the Terms and Conditions the below fees which will be required. I have booked vehicles with most of the Car rental companies regularly and have NEVER been requested to pay this exorbitant fee. Please urgently cancel this booking and return my monies. This condition only became noticeable after my fees were paid.
Please also urgently advise me of the cancellation and pay back all monies. The booking was made today and as per the cancellation policy from Hertz, I need to cancel within the same day of the booking in order to receive all monies back.
Deposit / Excess Amounts
The rental company will require a security deposit of ZAR 13,000.00 when you pick your car up. The deposit will be returned after the rental, as long as all conditions have been met.
The car has a damage excess of ZAR 13,000.00 including tax.
The car has a theft excess of ZAR 13,000.00 including tax.
I booked a rental car thru rental cars.com for 19 Apr 2018 for 3 weeks. Booking was confirmed with ref# 585060328 with Europcar for London Heathrow. I prepaid $959.90 for the rental using my Visa card which includes insurance coverage for rental cars. Upon arrival at London Heathrow having flown overnight Europcar refused to honor the agreement until I took additional car insurance advising me that since the fall of 2017 Europcar no longer accepted credi card insurance for cars valued over a certain amount. I believe that amount is 17000.00GBP.
Having prepaid and already tire having flown overnight I was in no position to argue and was obliged to spend a further 419.00GBP for collision & fire and theft insurance coverage.
I believe that as a broker you should have advised me of this requirement as I will no longer use Europcar regardless of cost.
I should be obliged to receive your comments on this matter as I believe all North Americans will be misled if they use your services and and are not informed of this new requirment.
I have looked at the terms and conditions of Europcar but need the services of a lawyer to understand them fully.
Hi,
I booked a car at Copenhagen airport. My booking ref no: 349553860.
May I clarify if Alamo, who is going to rent me the car, notified of my booking?
I had the impression the car is picked up at the airport. But the Pick-up instructions say: Shuttle bus service to the car rental centre. T2: The bus stop is located just outside the terminal. T3: The bus stop is located outside the ‘Clarion Hotel’.
May I clarify:
1) how far away is the Alamo car rental centre from the airport?
2) What is the operating hr (we land at 0625 hrs),
3) how frequent is the shuttle bus service?
4) How would I recognise the shuttle bus?
Thanks.
Michael
To whom it may concern,
I’ve made reservation 344582527 on Mar 13, 2017 and cancelled it on Jul 18. I’ve just noticed today not getting the refund back ($125 CAD). According to the email sent on Jul 18, 2017, $125 CAD was the cancellation fee I should not have been charged in the first place. Please process the refund ASAP.
We have been charged for a rental car here in Merida Mexico and they did not provide a car for us today. I have been trying very hard to get ahold of rentalcars to resolve this problem and all of the phone numbers are not working. This is complete bullshit in my option and I am an avid traveler around the world. If we do not get a rental car tomorrow, I will make sure to contact a legal representive.
I thought My reservation was cancellable but now I find out I have a $185 non refundable deposit. Ref #329063083. Thrifty has no record of my booking.
On 12th July 2017 we returned a Ford Turneo Enterprise car hire to Geneva Airport.
A scratch to a wing mirror was noted and a deposit of 810.00 SF was required.
I asked that the original deposit was returned and accept my payment of 810.00 SF to allow me to accept the liability for the repairs.
Agreement was reached with Enterprise Holdings and the balance of monies from the original deposit have been refunded.
The 810.00 SF that I paid was not used.
Enterprise Holdings are adamant that my payment remains with RentalCars.com and that they do not have these monies and have provided evidence to that effect.
I cannot find a way to contact the RentalCars Geneva office.
The person who answered the phone claimed that RentalCars.com was only a broker and that the monies would be with Enterprise.
Enterprise say NO
I can provide documentary evidence of my payment.
810.00 SF are sitting in someones’suspense account.
I want my money back
Why did Rentalcars charge me non-sterling transactions fees on my rentals with a UK c/card picking up in London and the company is based in Manchester UK
Where did the non-sterling come from?
