Porter currently offers four fare types and each of them offers varied features. The fare types consist of Freedom, Flexible, Standard and Basic. The carry-on and checked baggage restrictions depend on the fare type. Fliers are allowed carry-on baggage with max 9kg. At the moment, those flying on Basic fare are not allowed a standard carry-on bag. As for checked baggage, each bag must not exceed 23 kg. Note that oversized bags will be checked at the gate for a fee. Additional bags also can be carried for a fee. Payment for extra baggage can be made at the airport or online through the website. I made mistake of booking a standard fare flight. This was the first time I book a flight. It took forever and I guess I didn’t select the insurance option, my husband was to fly with me and his father died. Could porter show some compassion and reimburse my 700$ ? The last time I flew Porter I experienced terrible delays and instead of complaining, I believed you when you used the excuse of plane maintenance. I did not complain but I think you should show some compassion. Now you are advertising the same flight for half price. I am so disappointed.
My plane took off Toronto to Ottawa, Monkton. The entire flight to Ottawa, the nose was elevated about 15°, 10° and the tail hanging low. So as a passenger you always had the sensation of falling. They only fly at 9,000 ft so you see the rooftops of all the houses and trees.
At the Billy Bishop airport, Porter told me to go downstairs and wait to board. Security told me I still had 20 minutes to grab a coffee. You know how that ends up. The woman who told me to go downstairs was taking boarding passes. And because she specifically was the one that told me to go downstairs she wouldn’t allow me to board the plane even though it was still there and the pilots were not on board. She was expressing her power because she insisted that because security in the airport doesn’t work for Porter airlines. It’s not her problem that the security told me I had time for a cup of coffee. It’s my problem because I didn’t do what she specifically told me to do. So she wouldn’t allow me to board even though the plane was there.
I ended up wandering the streets of Toronto for the night during this with no rooms. Next day I flew, and this time we flew to Ottawa without much issue. Out of Ottawa we flew halfway to our destination when the pilot came on and said we have no defrost no de-icing and no way to clear the windows going into a snowstorm. So we have to return to the airport and switch planes with one that has working defrost icing and window clearing ability.
That specifically means that Porter airlines flew knowing full well that deicing wasn’t working and window clearing wasn’t working. But it was a clear day in Toronto when we left. So I’m assuming Porter airlines put us in a dysfunctional airplane hoping that it would get us to our destination and beat the storm. But we didn’t beat the storm. So halfway through the flight that pilot admitted the plane wasn’t mechanically sound and he was going to turn around and bring us back. There is no department within Porter airlines to file customer complaints or see reimbursement for problems that were a result of employees not working together.
