About Phong Nha Ke Bang
An undisputed gem of Vietnam, the Phong Nha Ke Bang is a historic national park, and is home to Asia’s oldest Karst mountains, underground rivers, grottos, caverns, and limestone stalactites. Located in Quang Binh, a small province in Central Vietnam, Phong Nha Ke Bang Park covers 857.54 square kilometres of land, protecting the natural ecosphere and bio-diversity of the tropical forest. Established in 1986, as a protected nature reserve, the caves are over 400 million years old, and are today, a popular adventure destination for tourists.

Visited by over 1 million people, the National Park is home to Son Doong, the largest cave in the world, and protects around 300 caves, 2 large limestone deposits, and longest underground rivers, belonging to the Paleozoic age. Declared in 2003, as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, the park is classified into 3 zones, the protected zone, the ecological zone, and the administrative zone. The park is one of the top 29 destinations to visit in 2019, and is hugely popular as an ecotourism site and adventure tours.

Tour activities for visitors at Phong Nha Ke Bang, include exploring the flora and fauna, cave expedition by boats, mountain climbing, trekking, kayaking, camping, cycling, and motor biking tours. At Phong Nha Ke Bang, hikers can enjoy the best hiking routes through the rivers and streams, and for the adventurous cave explorers, must to see caverns include the Son Doong, Tu LAN, Hang Va and Nuoc Nut, Pygmy cave, Hang En, Phong Nha cave and Paradise cave.

Best time of the year to visit Phong Nha Ke Bang is from February – August, and best to avoid October – December, during the rainy season. An ideal stay of 2-3 days is essential to explore the caves, and wander in the luscious flora and dense tropical forest, hike through the waterfall, drive across the scenic landscapes, and go boating in the underground rivers and streams. Booking for guided tours are limited, so advance reservation is essential, and hiking tours are permitted only under the guidance of a licensed tour operator.

Open all year round, and closed for the rains and flood season, the Park operates from 7:00am-4:00pm every day, and the tickets for Paradise cave cost 250,000 VND for adults, 125,000 VND for children, and for Phong Nha cave, the cost is 150,000 VND for adults, and 360,000 for boat cave tours. Entrance tickets for Tien Son cave cost 80,000 VND for adults, and 180,000 VND for kayaking, spring bathing, and boating. The tickets are highly expensive, as the National Park is a protected zone, and wants to limit the number of visitors, to protect and conserve the forest.
