About MA Chidambaram
stadium

MA Chidambaram Stadium was established in the year 1916 and is named after industrialist and former BCCI President Muttaiya Annamalai Chidambaram. Also known as Chepauk Stadium, the ground has a seating capacity of 38,000. While the first test was held in the year 1934, the first ODI was between India Australia in 1987. The stadium, home to the Tamil Nadu cricket team, is owned and managed by the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association.

In 2009, MA Chidambaram Stadium underwent renovation at a cost of $26 million. The stadium has 9 stands (A to I), and 17 Gates. The stands also house state-of-the-art facilities such as Media Center, Broadcasting Control Room, TV Camera Platforms, Club Secretaries AC Box, club house, among others. Anna Pavilion End and V Pattabhiram Gate End are the two end names. Once the renovation was complete in 2011, the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association went on to host the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 match, which India won against Sri Lanka.

England holds the record for the highest score on the ground (1985). The first ever match of the Ranji Trophy was also held here in 1934. The historical match was between Madras and Mysore. The stadium currently holds Test, One Day and T20 matches. It is also home to IPL’s Chennai Super Kings.
