About London Charing Cross
London Charing Cross is a busy central London railway terminal. Part of the South Eastern Mainline, the name of the station came from Charing Cross Road and it is the central hub of London. This station is commonly referred to as the Queen Eleanor Memorial Cross. It is one of the largest stations in the city. London Charing station is situated right next to Thames River and it is the sixth busiest and oldest station in the United Kingdom.
The station was opened in the year 1846 to measure the actual distance of London City. It was a well-occupied station in the 19th century, with advanced equipment and all facilities available during that period. It was badly damaged by engineering accidents in the year 1905 and later rebuilt. Not surprisingly, it became a meeting point for military and government authorities during the First World War.
The trains in the station have been operated by the South Eastern Railway since 1864. This terminus provides a majority of the commuter and regional services to South East London and Kent.
