About Lighthouse Beach, Kovalam
The Southern shores of the Malabar Coast, is home to Mother Nature’s best-hidden treasures, offering breath-taking panoramic views of the Lighthouse Beach at Kovalam, in the land of God’s Own Country, in Kerala. Lined with jewel-studded palm grove trees, and the shimmering Arabian Sea with deep tones of teal, the Lighthouse beach is a hot-pick with tourists around the globe, and is one of the largest beaches in Kovalam.

The name of the beach originates from the 18th century built Vizhinjam Lighthouse, towering at 35-metre high, sitting atop the Kurumkal hillock and, is one of the prime attractions of the Lighthouse beach. The watchtower offers mesmerizing aerial views of the turquoise oceanic sea, washing across the golden-sand shores of Kovalam. Climbing the 142 steps of the watchtower, is an experience of a lifetime, leading towards the observation deck, to capture the enchanting vistas of the pristine Arabian Sea and the Poovar.

Water sports are a huge crowd-puller at the Lighthouse beach, namely surfing, paragliding, parasailing, water-bikes, and much more. For the non-adventurous, the seawaters touch moderate temperatures, perfect for deep-sea diving and swimming, under the watchful eyes of the lifeguards. Likewise, the beach is a popular filming location for scenic drone-shots, and is great for photography and nature lovers.

At the beach, indulge at a variety of scrumptious platter of fresh seafood, available from the shacks and hotels, lined across the coast, and unwind at the therapeutic Ayurvedic Massage centers, a popular leisure activity for tourists. Other attractions nearby the beach are the Hawah Beach, and the Samudra Beach, which is a part of the Kovalam stretch, along the coastline. Accommodation is plenty near the Lighthouse beach, from budget hotels to five-star suites, and luxurious resorts offering fantastic holiday deals for honeymooners, during the monsoons.

The beach is at a close proximity to Trivandrum, the capital city of Kerala, and is easily accessible by cabs, buses, and private vehicles. The nearest railway station is 11kms, and the International airport is 10kms away from the beach, making it easy for tourists to travel and explore nearby attractions of the city, whilst visiting the Lighthouse beach.

Best visited during the months of Oct-Feb, the Lighthouse beach throngs with tourists and picnickers, in the spring and winter season. Open all days of the week from 3:00pm-6:00pm, the Vizhinjam Lighthouse entry fee costs INR 10 for adults, INR 3 for children aged 3-12 years, and INR 25 for non-nationals.
