About Kenya Police Service
Law enforcement in Kenya is managed by the Kenya Police Service (KFS). It traces its origin to the Imperial British East Africa (IBEA) Company. Established in the year 1906, the Kenya Police Service employs close to 65,000 to maintain law and order, protect members of the public and their properties and prevent crime. Locally called Karau/Polisi, the motto of the force remains “service to all”. The force is spread across all the counties, including Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Lamu, Garissa, Wajir, Marsabit, Isiolo, Meru, Embu, Kitui, Nyeri, Turkana, Samburu, Baringo, Nandi, Nakuru, Busia, Vihiga, Siaya, Migori, Kissi, Nyamira and Nairobi.

Kenya Police Service is headed by the Deputy Inspector General, with headquarters located at Nairobi. The vision of the force is “to be a world class police service, with a people-friendly, responsive and professional workforce”. The staff works to deter crimes with high-visibility policing, investigates crimes and arrests law violators and monitors activities to protect people. Part of the National Police Service, it further responds to various situations and coordinates operations with other agencies.

The force is divided into Formations, Service Headquarters, General Duty Commands and Institutions. All sub-county commands and police stations come under General Duty.
