About Joshua Tree National Park
Joshua Tree National Park is a national park located near San Bernardino and Palm Springs in California. Before being designated as a national park in 1994, it was popular as a national monument. Each year more than 3 million visitors visit the park. Joshua Tree National Park is governed by the National Park Service. The park, named for the Joshua trees (Yucca Brevifolia), covers an area of 791,000 acres. Much of the park is designated as wilderness. Joshua tree apparently survives up to 1,000 years and can grow 15 to 40 feet in height and 1 to 3 feet in diameter.

There are six mountain ranges – the Little San Bernardino Mountains, the Cottonwood Hexie, Pinto Mountains, the Eagle and the Coxcomb Mountains. The highest mountain at the park, Qual Mountain, stands at 5,816 feet. For more facts, the park’s oldest rocks Pinto gneiss is said to be 1.7 billion years old. Popular attractions at the park include Mojave Desert, Colorado Desert, Quail Mountain, Hidden Valley, Cholla Cactus Garden, Keys View, Skull Rock, among others. Joshua Tree park is open all year round. One of the visitor centers within the park will help with your planning, transportation and lodging. You can visit either the Joshua Tree Visitor Center, Oasis Visitor Center, Cottonwood Visitor Center or Black Rock Nature Center. As for the campgrounds you can consider, there is Black Rock, Cottonwood, Indian Cove and Jumbo Rocks. Most campgrounds offer water, flush toilets, tables and fire grates. All visitors will need an entrance ticket.

The entrance fee varies for individuals and groups. The tickets are valid for 7 days. Besides individual entrance fee, you also will need to pay a fee for your vehicle. For more frequent visits, you can take the Joshua Tree National Park Annual Pass that is valid for 12 months. Annual passes are available at park entrance stations and visitor centers.
