About IMDb
IMDb is one of the most popular websites on the Internet. First launched in 1990, the website is owned and operated by Amazon. IMDb, which is short for Internet Movie Database, was launched by English entrepreneur Colin Needham. The platform contains information on millions of films and television programs. It is visited for latest updates on movies and TV programs, watching trailers, knowing cast/crew members and reading reviews by critics and users. The website is visited by over 250 million visitors each month. There are 83 million registered users as well. Also, the IMDb app has over 115 million downloads. Just like on web, the app also allows users to watch latest trailers and clips, check ratings and read reviews.
Signed in users can add movies and programs to their watchlist, get personalized recommendations and create lists to share with friends and family. IMDb is available in English, Spanish, German, French, Portuguese, Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese. On the homepage, you will find ‘coming soon’, ‘now playing’, latest news and latest tweets. On each title page you will find plot summary, related photos, cast, storyline and other key details. You can also read and leave reviews. Use the advanced search to look for a title. You can also search by keyword or genre.
There is IMDb Pro for industry executives to connect with others, monitor industry trends, find contacts for industry professionals and companies and read film and TV popularity insights. There is annual as well as monthly membership. Users can start with 30-day trial before a paid subscription.
I’m a big fan of IMDB and love using the app as I consider myself as a bit of a cinefile. Maybe I’m not knowledgeable enough to be a proper critic but that is exactly why IMDB is perfect for me.
As such I’ve spent a significant amount of time rating the films I watch (for personal enjoyment). I also separate them into lists to see what I tend to favour. I don’t expect people to look and discuss (really don’t care) but I do enjoy looking and seeing what I’ve watched.
Unfortunately, all the lists I’ve saved are no longer available for me to view. When I’m on my personal page, it says my lists are there but if I select ‘lists’, nothing comes up.
The new appearance of IMDB in the internet is a catastrophe. The list of movies for a specific actor is completely unclear and I am no longer able to see the original title of the movies in the list because I live in Germany. But I am not interested in the German title for an American actor – therefore I use imdb.com.
