About FASTag
FASTag is a reloadable tag that enables automatic deduction of charges at toll plazas. The tag, which employs Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology is affixed on vehicles, allowing drivers to drive through toll plazas without having to wait in long queues for buying a toll free and enjoy a hassle free trip. The electronic toll connection device is part of the government’s plan to promote digital payments.

Launched in 2014, FASTag is operated by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI). To facilitate the availability of FASTag, the NHAI launched two mobile apps – FASTag and FASTag Partner – making it easy for vehicle owners to buy and recharge their account. All FASTags are linked to a digital wallet or bank account. On the app, by using UPI payment vehicle owners can recharge their account. FASTag owners can also recharge online through credit card, debit card and net banking. Registered users can pay through any of the popular banks or using BHIM UPI app. Participating banks include Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, IDFC Bank, SBI, HDFC, Syndicate Bank, South Indian Bank, Federal Bank, Yes Bank, Punjab National Bank, City Union Bank and Union Bank. On the app, users can track past transactions and also reach the support to raise a complaint on unauthorized payment or tampered tags.

To purchase a new FASTag, you can also visit any of the PoS locations across the country. You will will need to carry a copy of valid KYC documents and vehicle RC copy. There might be a minimum deposit and charges for new customers. The tag, which comes with a guarantee of 3 years, is acceptable across over 490 national highway toll plazas and some select state highways. There is a dedicated FASTag lane for drivers to enjoy faster transit. If the FASTag is not readable or has no money in the account, users can pay by cash at the counter. Registered users will receive an SMS alert when balance is deducted from account. The toll rates vary according to distance, type of highway and vehicle.

FASTag once affixed on a vehicle cannot be transferred to another vehicle. If due to wear and tear, the tags are not readable, you can approach the issuer for a replacement. And if you have two vehicles, you will need to purchase two separate FASTag. For complaints or queries on installation, payment, cancellation, refund, or others, reach the FASTag support.
