About Australian War Memorial
Australian War Memorial is a popular war memorial located in Canberra, Australia. Built in 1941, the memorial commemorates the lives of thousands of Australians (more than 100,000) who died in the 1914-1918 war. It is home to a vast collection of pictures and media pertaining to the war. The collection is divided into Art, Military Heraldry and Technology, Photo Sound and Film, and Printed and Written Records. The collection was established by Charles Bean and John Treloar. Ranked among the world’s great national monuments, the Memorial is open from 10am to 5pm every day. For visitors with their own vehicle, parking is limited to only 4 hours. The underground car parking can be accessed from Fairbairn Avenue. Parking is also available at Treloar Crescent. Free cloaking as well as wheelchair facility is provided to guests. You can visit the information desk at main entrance for assistance.
At the Memorial, you have the Poppy’s Cafe and The Landing Place for eateries and drinks. Are you interested in Australia’s military history? Then the Research Centre here is for you. Guests can use the Collection databases and discover items in the collection. The Research Centre Reading Room is open Monday to Friday. Visitors also have an outdoor Sculpture Garden. Looking for merchandise? You can purchase centenary products, clothing, CDs/DVDs at the Memorial Shop within the building. You can also purchase posters, prints, clothing and much more online using Visa, MasterCard or PayPal. Refunds and returns are not possible for Collection material.
