The airport has been voted as the Best Managed Airport by CNBC Awaaz Travel Awards, 2010. Some of the airlines flying from the airport include Air Arabia, Air China, Air France, Air India, Air Mauritious, AirAsia, British Airways, Dragonair, Emirates, Etihad, GoAir, IndiGo, Kingfisher Airlines, Jet Airways, Lufthansa, Malaysia Airlines, Oman Air, Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines, SpiceJet, SriLankan Airlines and Thai Airways.
On Monday, February 12th, 2018 after exiting flight #AI584 from TRV approx 10:30am, I lost my black mesh handbag with all my personal identification, including Canadian passport,Indian Visa, Bank and Credit Cards!! I was distracted retrieving baggage from Conveyor belt area 3 at the Bangalore Airport and didn’t realize it until I reached a tourist service counter to arrange a hotel and driver!! I was in total shock of course and rushed back to check my route and also the area around the baggage carousel where my friend and I had been waiting for our baggage.
I saw nothing at all, in and around the trolleys lined up and thought I was in big trouble now. Panic started to set in and I went to the Information Reception Desk to report the loss of my handbag. They asked me to double check I had not misplaced it with the rest of my personal belongings and then referred me to the Security Officer across the hall from the Info Desk. He was Arun Mehra, CISF and listened very kindly to my tale of woe.
He suggested I cross the hall to inform the Information Desk and I said I had already done this but now felt this needed Police involvement. He took me to Police Complaints and the man there said I needed to go to local Police Station. However, if I left Airport I could not get back in without a letter of authorization and as my friend Donna had all our baggage and belongings on a trolley, this did not seem a good option. Next I went to Airport Management and said I needed their help informing the authorities my Passport and Credit Cards were missing and I needed help finding my bag. The man at that office said I needed to go to
Air India and lodge a complaint!
I shared my opinion that this had nothing to do with Air India and everything to do with Airport Security.
Arun Mehra took me back to Information Desk where I met
K.B. Bylaraju. He spoke kindly and listened to what I had to say and said he was working on it to help locate my bag. He suggested it might be good to have a coffee and sit and wait for further information. Meantime, my friend Donna, located a picture she had taken of me with my bag and passed it along to the Information Desk for their further information and help. Donna also indicated to them we would NOT be leaving the airport until the Canadian Embassy was notified!!! This might have been a bit dramatic however, the situation was critical to me and my future and I was grateful to have the support of a friend at this time.
Part way through our coffee, Arun came over to us and indicated that staff may have been successful in using the CCTV to trace the whereabouts of my bag. At this information I burst into tears of joy and so did my friend. It turned out that yes, staff picked up my bag near the Carousel #3 and it was being checked out by Airport Security. It would likely only be a matter of time before we were reunited.
At approximately 12:00 noon Donna and I left the inside of the Airport Building to wait across from the Airport Management kiosk for a signal to come over to claim my bag! It was not too long before this came to fruition after filling out a brief report at approximately 12:30pm. Everything was in order; all back in place and I will never forget this experience. It only takes a moment to be distracted from these really important items when traveling. I am wiser for it but am so very grateful to the staff who helped me. Special thanks to
K.B. Bylaraju who I know continued to work quietly and persistently on my behalf to trace the whereabouts of my important belongings. His conduct was professional and kind, taking my loss seriously and never faltering.
Also Arun Mehra who personally escorted me to the different kiosks and giving me direction on the options I might need to consider. Gentlemen, I am so grateful and the Bangalore Airport is a better place with you two in it. Congratulations on your excellent work ethic.
Many thanks to everyone who had a hand in bringing a wonderful solution to what could have been a disaster.
